I have PCOS and a while ago I spotted ALL - THE - TIME. Sometimes for months on end (it was ridiculous). More recently, before my medicated cycles, I did spot a couple days before AF. I never knew if that was directly a symptom of my PCOS or other infertility issue, but that's what happened for me.

@tequiero21: I'm so sorry you had to go through all that, and also sorry your doctors weren't fair to you. I agree, it does seem kind of neglectful and like they didn't do everything they could to help you before IVF.

@Mrs.Someone: I was ttc for about 3 years. Did an hsg and then got pregnant that cycle. Lost baby at 9 weeks, about 6 months after I lost the baby, did 3 cycles of clomid plus iui. Then waited like 2-3 months before starting on ivf. I was always very regular for period, but I would always spot a few days before. Not a lot, but enough to warn me of my impending af. I guess I'd have to request my records to see what exactly they did. But I don't remember them ever testing my hormones except for when I was doing the ivf. I know they measured all my follicles when I was on clomid, but they didn't do anything like that before clomid. We just kinda jumped into clomid.

@tequiero21: Remind us of your story? I know you did IVF, but it seems odd for your doctors (neglectful?) to go there without a lot of testing...

@raintreebee: yeah, I complained to my hubby that I felt like no one really "tested everything" to figure out what was wrong. Maybe they just wanted to get as much money from me and just start me on all the protocols.... I mean, I'm forever grateful to them since I have my babies.... But I wonder if we could have resolved whatever issues I supposedly didn't have without paying high costs...

I used to have a major spotting problem...looking back at my charts, it used to last 3, 4, even 7 days before AF. Yet when my RE tested my progesterone he said it's still kind of low, so I guess I wasn't cured or anything.

Yes spotting is usually a sign of progesterone issues (which are caused by many things). So sorry about your loss. It is amazing what doctors overlook.

@Mrs.Someone: I wonder why no one mentioned that to me! I'm pretty sure I said I had spotting! I lost my first. And my 2nd, I was taking progesterone in oil....hmmmmm....

I don't, but I've heard that spotting before AF can be a sign of low progesterone.

I used to get spotting like a few days before my period. I wonder if that contributed to my IF.... Post-partum, I haven't spotted yet. I just get my period.... I wonder if my issue may be resolved for now? I was never diagnosed with anything....
