@LMOG47: Hahah! I went yesterday for an u/s to see how things are progressing... Everything is inserted and ready and the computer thing wouldn't work. Only me! The doctor and nurse tried for a while, removed wand and said we'd have to change rooms, then computer started to work and back in it went. Seriously?! LOL.

Thank you for all the tips ladies. @Mrs.Someone: i am really trying to be hopeful. Luckily my mum is a great help with all this, she tries for 5yrs for me and really understands.
@LMOG47: cant imagine getting used to the wanding but at least it motivates me to keep my bikini line in order hahaha
@spaniellove: ive been keeping a file but I think writing extra notes might be the way forward.

Once again. Thanks so much everyone!

All good advice you received above. I agree with finding somebody to confide in besides your SO. And also taking good care of yourself and doing things (hobbies, spa treatments, etc.) that make you happy!

Yes, the constant wands and blood draws are not fun, but you just get through it. I became so used to both that I was almost immune to them. Didn't really phase me a bit! Still doesn't, to this day now. I would just chat with the RE nurses and ultrasound techs which would help pass the time and make the experience better.

Think positive. It can be hard, but it will help. Know that all of this you are going through WILL be so, so worth it in the end. :)

I agree with everyone else so far. Like @swedishfish: said, keeping a sense of humor goes a long way while someone's all up in your bits. Especially the delightful wanting.

One thing that that I struggled with for a while was knowing when it was time to take a step back/break & distance myself from certain people/activities. And, not feel guilty about it. For a couple years I was inundated with baby showers, activities with small children/pregnant friends and things that just made me feel worse. I finally got to the point I realized that these activities only added to my sadness/depression and made me feel worse. Perhaps I'm an idiot or a glutton for punishment but eventually I took a step back & ultimately, this helped bring me a bit of peace.

Eta: oh, yea, and "just relax" like @mrs. someone: said...she actually beat me to that

I agree with all of the above. Also, from a mental health perspective, find a project or two that you can invest time and energy into that you'll find rewarding. I found physical challenges especially helpful - running a 5k without stopping and trying several new yoga classes. I think it really helped me feel like my body is strong while dealing with infertility treatments.

The needles still suck for me (I always have to lay down and close my eyes), but I'm totally indifferent to the wanding now. I just had my first regular OB appt since getting pregnant, and it was super weird to be able to keep my pants on!

Also, it is absolutely okay to do your own research and be your own advocate. Your doctor is your doctor but no one cares more about your treatment than you. It is okay to want to know more about your meds, the protocol, what other protocols are out there, what other diagnoses could be possible, and to ask questions. If you want to try something different or you want another consult, it's okay to ask for that.

@swedishfish: Agree about the notes. At our first clinic, DH went with me and entered all the notes into his phone, which he then emailed to me. At our second clinic, their system involved handing me the notes from the u/s to put in the inbox, so I would stop in the bathroom and photograph them. I also had a spreadsheet for each cycle that made it easy to keep track of every visit, communication, procedure, and med, by cycle day.

Just relax!
(Don't worry, I'm kidding! See the sense of humor suggestion above  )

I also agree that it helps to have close friends to confide in. I had 2 friends that I talked to along the way, and both were very helpful and supportive. But make sure you talk to friends who won't give you advice for things they don't understand. I also found a meetup group that was helpful in itself (but the "organizer" wasn't).

Another thing that helped a little is that I would picture myself pregnant or holding a baby. After trying for so long, its hard to believe that its ever going to happen. And even being pregnant now, its still hard for me. But in those days of doubt, just picturing it was a little comforting.

I also agree with Swedishfish on keeping notes. I'll add, try and get a copy of every set of results you get: blood tests, HSG, etc. It will make it that much easier for you do advocate for yourself if needed. I ended up noticing one critical "gray area" that my NP missed at one point, just because I looked at the lab results.

@Snowdrop: also, keep detailed notes. I designated DH to be my note keeper at wanding appointments. Even though my RE is fabulous I am still responsible for my own journey. I am my own advocate.

@Snowdrop: I know this might be crazy but try to approach all of those blood draws and wandings with a sense of humor. Joking with the staff made the process easier for me. I just went back and the PA told me she missed my sense of humor.

Find someone IRL to confide in beside your SO. DH was just as overwhelmed as I was. It was helpful to trust in someone else who was a neutral party.

Believe that your time will come. :goodluck:

I know this, or similar, has been posted before but thought it might be nice to have a new one.

What advice would you give to those of us in the thick of it?

I have only just received my diagnosis and the constant blood draws and 'wanding' is still quite new to me.
