Agreed! I hated maternity clothes. It sounds like this years options are worse than last year though. I didn't have any stripes and only one black top.

Thus far, I haven't bought too many maternity things because I wear drapey/loose shirts. My jeans still fit but I really liked a lot of things at Motherhood Maternity. They had cute skater dresses/maxi dresses and I like Jessica Simpson's line there. I also want to second H&M and ASOS. They are online but they're not terrible. Old Navy and Target are pretty terrible in terms of what I've been trying to find.

I also don't mind stripes and black :P They're the majority of my wardrobe anyway.

Yes! I hope to look cute if we have more children (during pregnancy) because I did not the first time. I had the hardest time finding things. It was either poor quality or really expensive.

I got some really cute and different things from Asos and H&M. I got my basics like shorts and tees from Thyme maternity, the brand babies r us carries and Target. I actually didn't think my maternity clothes sucked and I kind of miss a few items! I gave birth around Thanksgiving to a very big boy so my biggest complaint was some of my maternity clothes stopped fitting close to when I needed more coverage due to the weather!

I do remember it being tough at first when I really started to show and could no longer get away with combining a few maternity pieces with regular clothes. I hope you find some stuff that makes you feel good! Try Asos, they do free shipping and returns and their stuff was stylish and flattering for me.

Also, I have to wear suits for work and there are no reasonably priced options! Like, poorly paid public interest lawyers who have to be in court everyday are screwed. I can't spend $300 on a single suit when I have to be in court daily. I was lucky and scored some open front blazers on sale early on and I just wear them over dresses, but the "wear to work" options out there are all super casual.

Old Navy and Gap have nice stuff but the Gap stuff is so expensive and the Old Navy stuff is really too casual for my job. So far, the stuff from Motherhood fits me well and some of it is pretty cute, but I don't feel like the quality is that great. And the way I'm built, I really can't wear much non-maternity stuff anymore. I did discover that the Old Navy near me sells their in-store maternity shirts on clearance, so yesterday I scored a t-shirt for $0.47, but that's not a reliable method.

Don't even get me started on the lack of good maternity running/activewear. I'm still just sizing up in non-maternity gym clothes because there aren't good options.

I could go shopping for more non-maternity stuff but seriously, it's so annoying to try clothes on now that I just can't bring myself to.

I was massive (9lb 11oz baby and polyhydramnios!) and managed almost completely without maternity clothes - bought one pair of jeans from Macy's and one from H&M, a few basic tanks/tees, and that was enough. Otherwise I got stretchy skirts and cardigans in larger sizes from the regular departments (I actually mostly shopped Salvation Army). Maybe to eschew maternity completely is an option for you?

I second AT Loft for cute maternity. Still only online, but I don't mind buying a ton of stuff and returning.
They almost always have a sale of some sort that's 40% off, to me getting a shirt for $20-30 is cheap, but I don't know what others consider cheap? I actually love a lot of my maternity clothes from them and they are good quality.

Agree that maternity in general has a lot of stripes, but...I like them! I'm only 25 weeks maybe I'll hate by end of summer. But for now I think they are cute for summer (lots of non maternity styles are striped right now too) and I think they do a good job accentuating the belly. I've noticed a few times that when I wore solid colors I looked sort of chubby/questionably pregnant. When in stripes I looked unmistakably pregnant.

I also have been buying a lot of non maternity maxis, maxi skirts and even regular short dresses. TJ Maxx has been a godsend - they have a ton of the foldover maxi skirts right now, the ones without a real waistband, for like $19-29, depending on brand. I've been living in them the last couple of weeks. Also a lot of maxi dresses there!

Lastly gap and pea in the pod. Gap is gap, I feel like it's just a good place for staples. Pea is expensive, but I am a shopaholic so I don't mind paying a lot for some great cute pieces and designer jeans. But their own line is reasonable, I think, especially the sale section.

All that being said - I do still think there is room in the market for a cute new line! I don't think what's out there is terrible, just limited. So I'd invest :-) you should go on shark tank! Haha.

I was just telling my friend this yesterday! I was shopping for maternity clothes and the closest I've found to kind of cute is Motherhood Maternity, but I could design things that were cuter. Everything is so matronly, why can't we have more V necks, more form fitting things, more substantial straps? It's so frustrating :( We don't all want to be in mumus or tunics.

I would love to see more clothes for long torsos, too. I have a long torso and half of the maternity shirts I've tried on show the bottom of my belly and I'm only 5 months!

Also, for people like me who had baby's head totally embedded really low early on, could they not make that seam going across at the bottom? I must have worn the same few skirts and maxi dresses for all of third tri just to avoid that seam.

I actually loved my maternity clothes! I had lots from loft, which you can only get online, but they had sales a lot and coupons. Or maybe bc. It was winter it was easier-- sweaters are maybe easier to approximate fit. Nursing clothes, in the other hand, suck so so bad! I can barely find anything I like

Yes, yes, yes. And for some reason I feel like places refuse to make things in fun colors? I found a pair of ankle-length work pants that I liked from Old Navy, but it only comes in black, navy, and I think another dark print. Not even gray! I need to change it up.

I will say though, I've really appreciated Old Navy and Gap's shipping and return policies - free shipping if you spend over $50 and then it's free return shipping too! So I'd just order a bunch of stuff in different sizes to see what worked, and then returned whatever I needed to. Lots of trips to the UPS store (which luckily is right by my work), but it was all free :)
