I'm an American living in Scandinavia and I've noticed that the women around here can seem a little difficult, only because they don't have the same social pressures on having to be "agreeable". Women seem to be less judged on their opinions. As for not being taken seriously because of maternity leave -- that's the first I've heard about it! It's considered a right here. I think our culture towards parenting is so different. </p> <p>This may be specific to my company but a handful of my female European colleagues are nasty and difficult to deal with- my boss told me it is because they are very defensive about people thinking they'll get pregnant and be out of work for an extended time so they're not taken seriously. I have no idea how valid that is because I've never worked over there and I'm not close enough to it.
