@lamariniere: yeah I think we are going to offer the potty but if he wants the diaper then that's fine. At this age I'll take what I can get! :)

@littleveesmommy: oh that is a great idea! I think this LO would totally respond to bring allowed a video. I'm definitely going to give this a try!

@Veggiemama: that's encouraging! Hopefully it is just a phase! I definitely don't want him to hold it. We had constipation issues with the mspi so it is on my radar, that's why I was trying to figure out how to respond.

My older child did this! He was 3 at the time but would scream and cry for a diaper when he needed to poop. I was worried that he would start having holding and constipation issues so I put him in a diaper if he asked. It was a short-lived phase and he stopped asking.

@Baby Boy Mom: DD was the same - we couldn't get her to sit on the potty for any length of time so she had many accidents in the beginning. We even tried sitting her on it every 30 minutes quickly but she wouldn't sit long enough to do anything. After many accidents she finally connected the urge to go with sitting down on the potty but there were also times when she would get up mid stream... :meh: That's when we broke out the big guns and showed her video's to encourage her to sit longer! Then when pee/poop came out, we applauded her and it got better.

@lamariniere: He is 22 months. I was actually planning on waiting a couple more weeks to start but he just started doing it himself the past few days so I'm going to run with it.

@littleveesmommy: I think this is our issue. And he mostly wants to pee standing up so I'm not sure how to get him to actually sit.

@Bao: ok yeah so that is a little different. Maybe my actual issue is that he doesn't want to sit on the potty for any length of time...

LO asked to do this after a week of potty training but we did not give her a diaper. We pushed through and encouraged her (and used rewards) and she finally got the hang of it. We didn't want her to regress in any way so that's why we chose to do what we did. However, she had went poop on the potty 2-3 times before that so I knew she could do it.

DD did this! We started potty training her around 25/26 months and even though she got pee down, she had anxiety about pooping. Before potty training she always pooped standing so we think that is why she was not comfortable pooping while sitting down. We gave her the diaper but only after asking to make sure she didn't want to try the potty. It took another two weeks before she started to poop on the potty more than the diaper.

How old is he? I would probably just go with the diaper. We potty trained DS at 30 months. He would only poop in his diaper though. It took him about 2 weeks after potty training to be able to poo on the toilet.

What do you do?

It seems LO is potty training himself...as in started asking to go potty and then actually goes. But then for number two he's been asking for a diaper. I'm not sure how to respond. Put a diaper on? Encourage him to sit on potty? (No interest for now...) anybody dealt with this before?
