Everyone was thrilled though. We were definitely not planning on being pregnant with #2 when #1 was 6 months old. Everyone still jokes about our Jamaican made baby(we were on vacation) and have been teasing us about making sure we don't have another surprise on our upcoming vacation. I was 21 and I really thought my parents would be really disappointed but my brother and I both were surprise babies and they took it with so much joy and grace. I don't remember my parents' initial reaction but I can tell you that my niece is one incredibly beloved kid! Most reactions were positive. My FIL acted shocked and made it about how "he was too young to be a grandpa" which was initially hurtful but he got over it and is a great grandpa to her now. My MIL was initially shocked and a little worried for us but she came around very quickly. Everyone in my family was very supportive.
