We're currently expecting #1 and I'm already stressed about money. It's not that we don't have enough its that we don't have enough to maintain our current standard of living and savings goals AND have a kid. Somethings got to give. I think we'll think long and hard about #2 because money is only going to get tighter with 2. I think money is the biggest obstacle/stressor for me when I think about having kids. We're just not the kind of people who know we want X number of kids and are willing to sacrifice anything to have them. All fees are paid by the state. When you adopt from the foster care system, you receive their foster care stipend until they turn 18. This is to incentivize adoption so kids are not stuck in foster limbo. The stipend can range based on where you live, and is increased if there are any medical needs, educational needs (like IEP’s) or psychological issues requiring therapy. In many states, former foster youth are eligible to attend their state university FOR FREE. (got the above info from Rage Against the Minivan!) Just wanted to put this out so everyone knows! But it all depends on my body and what it can handle. My mom and I both have the same heart condition and her second pregnancy caused a lot of issues. My parents had way less money than we do, and we really never wanted for anything. Money doesn't have an effect on how many kids we will have. We both grew up with little but had great childhoods. Having children and being a mother means everything to me.
