@spaniellove: I am SO sorry that you're having to deal with this. I think you should try this new provider and if it doesn't feel right then maybe third time's a charm. You should feel comfortable in your clinic! My clinic was an hour away (and that was the closest one) so I can tell you that it shouldn't affect you much. I did all of my appointments first thing in the morning so it wouldn't affect work much. It sounds like maybe that clinic pastaandpotato goes to might be a good fit. We didn't have email access to our EMR, but that sounds awesome! Email me if you need to vent!

Hugs! I am so sorry to hear how your dr. has been so unresponsive. I like the idea of seeing the other dr. in the practice but maybe checking out another clinic at the same time would be a good idea.

Personally, I should start a new cycle this week and depending on how this visit goes, I may also be getting another opinion. I will be thinking about you and hoping the dr. situation improves, one way or another!

@spaniellove: they do email and i LOVE it, and i've found that i'm more likely to ask questions that way. and, they have a log-in where you can access all of your Rxs to request refills, schedule appointments, or send emails through their form-thing (although, some of the docs don't have this, mine does - but, either way all of my nurses have given me their email addresses to get in touch with them directly)

@2PeasinaPod: I am, on the NJ side!

@PastaAndPotato: Wait, they're one of the places that emails! That would be my dream. I am phone phobic. My PCP is in one of the adjacent buildings (um, still haven't switched) so I can picture it. I noticed they were able to get you started with IVF pretty quickly!

@spaniellove: its in the "science building" which is not in the HUP building, but set off by itself on market. i've found them to be very organized, and very responsive, i don't think i've waited more than an hour or so to get someone on the phone or a response email when i've had problems or questions. also, i've been pleasantly surprised by how quickly i can get appointments - for my initial appointment, i was in the day after i called.

Your doctor needs to make you feel comfortable in their care. That's not the case here. I would hate to lose time too but it's more important in the long run to feel taken care of and secure in their care.

@spaniellove: in the morning, it takes me just around an hour and fifteen minutes - i think it helps that i go "pre-rush-hour" - i tend to leave by 6:20 and i'm normally in philly by 7:45. the way home is the same thing, leaving the dr around 8 or 8:15 gets me back to the office my 9:15 or 9:30 (sometimes a little faster depending on the traffic through university city). what's been nice is that they kind of have an open scheduling in the morning for the bloodwork/ultrasound rush - almost first-come-first-serve with general time brackets, and this has definitely helped keep me from getting tied up too long in the morning

@2PeasinaPod: LOL that would just be too much to ask from him...at my appt last week he mentioned that my last TSH was normal so I asked him to tell me the value. After 5 minutes of him flipping through folders and papers, I finally said "never mind, if it's that complicated you don't have to tell me." And then of course he finally found it. He refuses to get a computer.

@math.nerd: He saw me after the antibiotic fiasco and was extremely sympathetic and kind. There was a weird interaction at our first visit with him when we found out about our m/c, but now I get him. Because he's new at the clinic, he seems to have a lot more availability than the head doctor-slash-guru, so I should have been taking advantage of the chance to contact him directly. He's also much more conventional.

@PastaAndPotato: How long is the drive in the mornings with traffic? You probably know where I live...where the cluster of clinics are on the way to the city? I'm weighing whether somewhere like RMA Philly is worth the extra drive vs trying the 3rd out of 4 clinics within a 10 minute drive from my house since a lot of people seem happy with that 3rd clinic.

@spaniellove: I feel better about you going to a doctor you actually like, but if this doctor also doesn't give you something more conventional to try, then move on! So appalling that the other doctor didn't realize that your health condition and the Rx he gave you just plain don't mix. That's just blatant disregard for your health.

i think i would switch if i were you. the lack of instructions and information would be the deal breaker, for me - for something as specific and nerve-wracking as IF treatment, i like knowing that someone is going to answer each of my questions, even if i ask them 12 times each.

for what its worth, i'm travelling about an hour and fifteen minutes to my RE, and was really concerned about it in the beginning - while it's definitely far from ideal, they have been super flexible on appointment times (especially for ultrasounds/bloodworks early in the morning when they start around 7:40ish). most days i've had early tests i've still been able to make it in to work by 9 (if not 930). maybe consider some of the farther clinics or at call and see if you can get a telephone consult to discuss with a doctor or nurse the previous places you've been and what treatment you're looking for

@spaniellove: Through all the issues you've posted with this clinic, it is time to leave! They should be helping ease your concerns - not piling them up!
Does the doctor that you like know about your concerns? They really should know. Don't be afraid to speak up! I hope that you find a doctor that respects you the way every patient deserves to be respected.
I know that it might feel like "starting over", but I feel like at your current clinic you're just going in circles and getting nowhere. If you are able to find a better office with more compassionate staff, you might actually be able to make some more progress faster.

Good luck!

Well, baby steps - I called and told them I wasn't doing the meds anymore and needed an urgent appointment in the next week to come up with a new protocol. The receptionist and I butted heads for a while because she said the dr wasn't doing phone consults until sometime into my next cycle and didn't have any appointments for much longer, and the nurses couldn't help me if he and I hadn't already discussed the protocol. In the end I made the appt with a doctor I liked better who had handled my SHG and I knew would come up with something more conventional and hopefully more aggressive than just TI (because FFS, why would I be doing that after this long?)

You guys are right, as much as I hate to go through this process again. The clinics I've been to are the only two I've really considered so I don't even know where I want to go now. Other than one near my house the others are an hour's drive away. But after doing a minimal amount of research on the meds I know the doctor didn't even look at my file before recommending them to me, because someone with my health conditions should never take them and either of them could have killed me or done serious damage. That alone is reason enough to switch.

I think you should switch. Your care doesn't seem right, and if you give all of your records to the new doctor you aren't starting from scratch. Another option would be to get the records and make an appt at a new clinic, continuing with the old clinic until you can start at the new place. I am so sorry you are frustrated. This stuff is stressful enough.

Don't stay. I think the relationship you have and the service you are getting is enough of a reason to leave. It adds to an already stressful situation. I left my last place because they rarely communicated with me. My new clinic I loved my doctor immediately and thought, this is the man I want to make my baby, haha!

Seriously, though, leave and find some place you like better. And the time you're losing it's just a small fraction considering what you'd be gaining when you find the right place.

The title says it all...I'm not sure I want to go back next cycle. Last week I met with my RE and the plan was to keep doing monitoring and TI and add in a Lupron injection at 7dpo and another experimental med that he thought could prevent repeat miscarriage. After doing the Lupron, I had a lot of regrets, partly because of how they handled it - they gave me absolutely no instructions and I still have no idea if I used the right dosage or if I was off by a factor of 10. I've called at least five times now to get a prescription for the other medication and have gotten nothing but the runaround, which totally turns me off.

But if I take neither, I'm basically doing nothing but BDing blindly plus dealing with the stress of working with them, in which case I'm better off not even going there. It seems impossible that I could have so many diagnoses but he won't do Clomid/injectibles/IUI/IVF and only wants to try his experimental protocols on me.

If I switch, though, that would be my 3rd clinic and I'd be losing even more time. I'm just so ready to give up. Have spent the last few days bawling.
