Well in my case I gotta say my sleep has never been the same as it was before baby. It was way better but I also felt great to have my body back after being so huge and feeling so frail. To me that advice is pointless because you can only enjoy what you truly enjoy. Without the perspective all you will do is feel your current discomfort. It will pass And there will be new discomforts but that won't make the current ones any better. I hope you have an easier time soon and a prompt baby!

Yep, I'm hearing this already. I'd love to, but I also have to work! At least PP I'll be on mat leave for a few weeks and I'll have my mom there to give me breaks.

I downloaded the hypnobabies tracks 3rd trimester. I used it solely to fall asleep (not as birth prep). Just thinking about it makes me want to pop my ear buds in and sleep.

You're right, there is no sleep bank. Pregnancy sleep sucks just like newborn sleep.

I feel like I could have written this post! I HATE when people tell me to "sleep as much as you can now"... I sleep like total crap, every single night. I am tired all of the time, but when you wake up every 2 hours to pee and then spend 45 minutes trying to get comfortable and fall back asleep, it's impossible to get a good night's sleep! I'm 30 weeks and terrified about how much worse it might get

I am not stupid, and I understand that when my little guy gets here it's going to be very hard and my life is going to be turned upside down and I'm going to be exhausted, but I have to believe that at least I can be comfortable again in my body! Right now I feel like a hostage!

But since I know it's just crazy psycho hormones (or is it?) I keep my yapper shut to be safe.

@MrsBucky: Oooh I hate those comments, too. I want to tell them, I got pregnant on purpose, ok? I know what to expect, I've been around babies and children all of my life. I was a nanny for almost 10 years. My sis in law told me she didn't want the baby to come out, because she knew life would change forever. Um...duh?

I know people are just trying to help, and it's probably my hormones, but I am just sick of unsolicited comments/advice.

No, but it was less frustrating. During pregnancy, I was exhausted but couldn't fall/stay asleep easily. With a newborn, I could fall asleep at the drop of a hat.

I hated this expression/"advice" too... right with you on the imaginary sleep bank.

I would wake up every 2 hours or so to pee, but then I could waddle to the toilet, do my thing, and waddle back pretty much half asleep. Once the baby is out, you still have to get up every couple of hours for feedings/diaper changes, but it lasts longer than 30 seconds, and you're not quite half asleep. Soooo it sucks more after the baby is out.

I felt much better with baby out. I had heartburn, woke up starving and having to pee all the time, pains and just no place to get comfy during pregnancy.

For me it gets traded for anxiety ( I'm a hoverer at looking at my newborns) and babies with night and day mixed up. But my body felt a lot better and more capable of dealing with less sleep. Plus I relaxed and peacefully rocked my newborn when I was tired during the day while during pregnancy I just walked and grumped when I was tired.

To answer your question-- I slept fine (when I could) after the baby came. But I slept less. BUT I was fine with it. I was honestly more tired before the baby came than after, even though I had less sleep, because I had all that great new mom adrenaline.

I felt way better after delivery & slept much better. I would take newborn twins any day over late pregnancy with twins. I think the difference is that I wa still waking all night with the babies, but at least I could go back to sleep right away when they were down; whereas durin pregnancy, I might not be able to get back to sleep for hours and when I did sleep it was fitfully. I can't sleep well and am miserable now (39 weeks with one) and I'm hoping the same will be true this time.
