Can I just say how much I appreciate that people on this site are respectful of each other and there can be discussions like this without it getting nasty. My FB neighborhood moms group has been really toxic the last couple of days, so I'm loving the posts here even more now.

@honeybear: Same. Spring break for two weeks anyway for DS. Canceled our play dates and trips out of town. Staying home with some walks to the park and riding bikes etc. DW is adamant about not going to restaurants so we don’t defeat the purpose of the self-quarantine to flatten the curve.

Please stay at home and as far away from other people as possible.

The goal of these measures is to slow down the transmission rate. It's true that if some people stay home and limit contacts to necessary ones, that slowing will happen, but it will happen FASTER and more dramatically if everyone does it and does it scrupulously. So if you want schools, restaurants, offices, and conferences and such to open again soon, don't go visit with others (no play dates or parties), don't go to restaurants, and do what you can to limit contact with people who don't live in your household.

It'll be better for everyone in a few weeks if everybody limits their contacts as much as possible. Do it for your neighbors and for the most vulnerable among us; it's the right thing to do!

As for us, we're hanging out at home with some good books and outdoor play in the yard. Our trips out for now will only be to the grocery store as necessary (we stocked our pantry, so we should be able to keep these to a minimum) and to go to a handful of parks where we don't need to interact with others, can stay outside and far away from other people, and never have to touch anything that's not the handle of our car door (or our bike handles). No playgrounds.

My daughter's first birthday party is supposed to be in a couple weeks. We are planning on cancelling it though. I'm planning on staying home for the foreseeable future with just some walks around the neighborhood.

Basically the same as what @petitenoisette: said. I SAH with them, but most of our time is usually not spent at home at all, especially not in the mornings. I am going to try to get outside when we can and go on walks or play in our yard. I might do a playdate or two with a friend who lives in our neighborhood and we will probably go to our parents' homes. I am going to try to minimize how much I have to go to the store and if I do go then I will go by myself and make sure I wash my hands, leave shoes outside and change my clothes.

We will be spending most of the time at home. It’s supposed to rain off and on the next 10 days and school is out until the 13th of April. I’m working from home so it’s not like we will have a ton of time to do stuff! If we do go out on the weekends it will probably just be to hike or ride our bikes.

Yes, planning to stay at home, play in our yard, walk around the neighborhood, go on some easy hikes, etc. Thankfully the forecast looks decent. I’m not afraid to go to the grocery store (by myself) though I did stock up (though nothing crazy). My school is closed for at least 2 weeks but my husband is still working. Thankfully he doesn’t interact with many people in his day to day.

I’m supposed to go to a shower tomorrow but me and several other family members have decided not to go. I wish the host would have canceled it; I do think if anyone is hosting something that the polite and responsible thing to do right now is to cancel or postpone so everyone doesn’t have to individually decide whether they should back out.

We had plans to celebrate my son’s birthday at a restaurant next weekend, and are switching it to takeout at our house. Could you do that?

Schools are closing throughout the NY metro area...NJ, NY, and CT and many for at least 2 weeks. I feel like chilling at home is best for public health, with occasional trips for necessities or hikes and visits to parks.

I have plans to celebrate a big birthday with my friends tomorrow night, but am thinking of cancelling. Isn’t going to a restaurant a bit risky at this point? Wouldn’t it defeat the purpose of closing schools and working fro m home as much as possible?

Just curious to hear what y’all think...
