My cousin is a very rational person too, but that is all out the window when your innocent child is touched by someone you thought you trust. They're already scared, and the police investigation for victims of sexual assault, even children, is invasive and upsetting enough without adding having to deal with mom or dad being in trouble on top of all of that.
