That was before baby, though. After baby might be a different story, although I'm undecided about children and guns in the same house. Thankfully, the city we live in has a relatively low crime rate for its size. He is the gentlest dog I know usually, but when we were first dating DH came into my place when I was asleep and scared me, and when I screamed Charlie growled and grabbed his arm, not hard enough to break skin, but it was definitely a warning. But we have a second alarm panel outside our bedroom door, so if someone broke in I would fight like crazy to get to the panel to press the emergency code, which sends the police straight away and bypasses the calling our phones to make sure the alarm is for real. I actually think about this a lot and have my plan of "attack" all lined up in my head since DH is away so often! My plan if someone breaks in is to go crazy. We have a baseball bat in a closet close to the bedrooms and I honestly think my instinct to protect my young would scare anyone away. It's naive, but I know I would have a gun or knife turned on me because I'm not familiar with using them, especially under pressure. While DH hides. When we were in Cartagena years ago we were staying in a small, beautiful, but strangely empty hotel. One night we heard noises like someone was trying to saw into our ceiling, and that was when I realized the phone in our room didn't work. I jumped up in case anyone actually broke in and I had to fight them off.
