I would definitely take them. One of the only times I kept both kids home was when my younger daughter was diagnosed with the influenza as a baby. As a precaution we kept our three year old home too because she’d already been exposed and I didn’t want her to spread it. She’d been vaccinated, but so had her sister, so I was afraid she’d still get it and spread it around. For something like strep or a cold, I wouldn’t be that cautious. You can’t live in a bubble.

@Kemma: agree. we’ve never (so far, knock on wood) had strep passed between siblings.

I’m a bit pickier with gastro bugs but I’d take the other kids in this situation

DS2 (almost 3) came home last Thursday with diarrhea and vomiting. I just made sure to keep my older one (7.5) away from him and still sent him to school on Friday. Luckily no one else has caught it!

I think as long as you are taking precautions, washing hands, wiping things down/spraying with lysol, it should be fine. I think I went through almost a can of lysol this last week!

@Pollywog: I would take well, symptom free siblings. If we didn’t leave the house until everyone was symptom free in fall/winter, we’d never go anywhere!

If someone in your house was sick (strep throat or a virus) and had to stay home from school/work, would you send the healthy siblings to extracurriculars and activities?

As background, DS1 (3.5) was sick over the weekend. We kept him home until he was symptom free for 24 hours. DH got the bug and ended up with strep throat. He's been in bed since Monday. DH says I shouldn't take DS1 and DS2 to swim lessons tonight because they might be contagious.

The kids have no symptoms. I have no symptoms. I had my throat checked at work and I'm completely clear. So my question is, who is right? Can I finally get out of the house?
