Is there a way you can start a childcare discussion around your mom and see if she would just offer? Maybe say something like I'm so torn between two daycare centers because one is nicer but so expensive and the other isn't nice, but cheap...blah blah blah. And maybe she will say you're crazy for paying strangers and say she would love to get that extra time. Sometimes reverse psychology works. ;)

I'm a sahm, but my mom is retiring and going to nanny for my brother. She's going to go to their house, they are about 20 minutes away and I think its just easier with all of the baby's stuff there.

My mom babysits for me now if I have a doctors apt or if I'm sick, and she always comes to my house. But now that she's nannying ill bring lo to my brothers to make it easier for her.

As for asking.... I don't have advice. My mom offered so they didn't have to ask.

Just looking ahead to the future and trying to think of various scenarios. I'm not sure if we can afford a nanny or day care, so I'm guessing my MIL and maaaaybe my mom will help watch LO for 1 or 2 days each. I work for myself, so I can be a bit more flexible with my schedule, but still need to get work done. My ILs live 10 mins away, so I imagine I would bring LO to them (even though I don't like their house). I'm not sure about my mom though, she lives 30 away in the suburbs, and she doesn't like coming into the city (so scary she says!) I would have to wake up super early to drop off LO and make it back into the city and to my office at a reasonable hour.

Honestly, I have no idea what is going to happen. My MIL currently watches my 4 yr old nephew full time - he actually lives with my ILs full time! So I don't know what my SIL would do if MIL opted to help us with childcare. As for my mom, she still works 35-40 hours a week helping my dad manage his medical practice. She's not the full time grandmother type, but I wonder if she would be willing to do 1-2 days a week? I don't even know how to broach the subject!!!
