We are so busy with fun stuff that I can't even imagine having time for school. They do have a weekly summer camp and usually I sign her up for one week. It gets her out of the house and me some free time. The week I plan to send her, I have major things needed to get done for my weekend job so it works out well. But when she starts regular preschool (3s and 4s) in the fall, she will not go in the summer. I'll have to find some other activities for her for sure. LO is not in preschool now but she will go in the fall. This summer I think she is going to do a dance camp (3 hrs a day for a week) and maybe VBS. We don't need the childcare but I think it will be fun for her and get her used to being away from me more. We have no local family and DH works long/inflexible hours, so it's the only chance I get during the week for appointments or other solo time. ETA: it's not full-time. We enroll him in the weeks where I'm still teaching and he is already out. Also, they have a pick and choose program that we enroll him in. Basically, you get five days and can use them whenever. Last summer, we got two of them and he went sporadically when we were in town. She goes near my school 35 minutes from home so there is no way she could go in the summer even if I wanted her to! That said, I am totally happy to take her out and even happier about the money savings!! The summer camp sounds like it will be a lot of fun, so I think he will enjoy going there. LO stayed home with him last summer. We have a nanny share now and will probably send her to the preschool (she starts in Sept.) summer camp next summer. It's not a full day, so she'll spend some time with DH after camp. Some teachers left their kids in, but maybe dropped to part-time, and some took them out for the summer. DH and I are both teachers, so our kids will stay home with us during the summers. I'm fortunate I'm able to pull her out in the summer and they will save a spot for me in the fall. I'm definitely the minority though. Almost every other family at our daycare has at least one teacher parent and most of them drop to part time and continue going in the summer. They have a summer program and she will go to that as well, because we need childcare so I can work part-time. Just curious who send their LOs for educational/socialization purposes rather than childcare do.
