@Mrs. Sketchbook: if he loves it that much I would try not to feel guilty. Maybe just aim to be there around 4:45/5 instead of 5:30, that way he gets his time to do everything he wants, he gets a nap, snack/outside time and your younger one can "wake up" from nap.

@sandy: I wish school was later also!

@Mrs. Sketchbook: Then I would use the time DS2 naps before you pick DS1 up for whatever you need to get done. As long as the kids are happy, it's a win for all in my book!

@Boogs: I only work in the early evenings! The rest of my work I can do from home (I teach night classes).

My DD1 goes to a full time pre-k program (she's not in before care or after care). School starts at 8:15 and ends at 2:45. So 6.5 hours is a full day for her which I think is just the right amount of time. I do wish school started later bc 8:15 is pretty early to get her up and fed and out the door

@Mrs. Sketchbook: I think because he's so happy there, I wouldn't mind leaving him. While your little one naps you have time for yourself or to start dinner prep. Or sleep! When in there do you sleep if you work at night?

@Mrs. Sketchbook: it's NOT enough time!! But it's just a part time preschool, not a full childcare center.

Can you send him into school a bit later? So it would be like 10-5?

This is why we just left my kids in school while on maternity leave. I had good intentions of wanting to give them quiet time at home, but between nap from 12-2, then snack and playground, it doesn't make much sense to go grab them early when DH could go on his way home from work.

I sah and her school only goes until 12, so I pick up then. But in your case, it seems like he likes being there late so I would leave it. Get all your errands and chores done during that time so after you pick him up you can just have quality time, instead of doing a bunch of other stuff.

Could you do afternoons, maybe noon - after recess?

My daughter goes to pre-k 4x a week, 1230-3pm. I do wish it was slightly longer days so I have more time to run errands

This is also made more complicated by the fact that my younger son takes his nap at 1 and wakes up usually around 3 or 3:30! Then it takes what feels like an hour to get him ready to go, and drive to the pre-k. But I feel so guilty leaving older LO there so late!

Long story short...I was working full time, but now I am working nights. My kid was at a preschool with extended stay, and since it is mid year we decided not to take him out of the school, but just to keep him there for the full year. He used to stay 5 days a week until somewhere between 4:45 and 5:30. Now I can pick him up whenever, but really struggle to know when to pick him up. They get up from nap at 3:15, do snacks, then go outside around 3:45/4:00. My son flips out completely when I pick him up at snack time or if I show up when they are going outside, because duh snacks and playground. But I just feel like 9-4 is a long day for a kiddo when technically he could be home. He doesn't nap at home so I am hesitant to pick him up before nap, because he still gets a really good nap in at school.
