We aren't even going out ON Valentine's because it is cheaper for the restaurant we want to go to if we go the Sunday after. Plus I hate Valentine's day crowds. We usually stay at home and cook for eachother. We might do that again once LO is born. We go to our favorite fancy place every year for V-day (and our anniversary, and birthdays, etc.); they do not upsell, lower service, lower quality, or pack more tables in. It is fun to get dressed up and have a nice meal out, but we've gotten into a tradition of taking what we would spend on a nice dinner out ($100 or so) and going hog wild on really nice stuff at Whole Foods. The Valentine's Day before our wedding we bought some really nice filet mignons, a delicious bottle of cabernet sauvignon, and made homemade pasta with a red wine-mushroom sauce and roasted brussles sprouts finished with some flourless chocolate cake. We listened to the Frank Sinatra Pandora station and ended up finding out first dance song for our wedding!
