We do pretty well, but I usually have it on to watch some news in the morning so I have some connection to the outside world, but I try to keep it off after breakfast and turn music on. He has also seen a lot of Oklahoma State football and CrossFit Games. I have also decided it is important for him to see Jamie Oliver's 15 Minute Meals so he can learn how to cook. :) We have never actually turned the TV on to a kid's show for him to watch and he doesn't have much interest in it when it is on.

Some days I do feel guilty because I thought it would be easier to do zero screen time, but I try not to worry about it since it is minimal.

We do pretty good, I think! We may watch an episode of bubble guppies per weekend and that's pretty much it. We had a rough, sick weekend a couple weeks ago and I let her watch as much as she wanted.

We only have the TV on in front of her when a sporting event is on that we want to see is on and that is very infrequent. When it is on, she watches very little of it.

And we don't have a tablet so that's not a problem.

I'm a stay at home mom, but we don't stay at home much. I always intended to be a 'low' screen time person, and it's gone well. Usually she watches 30 minutes to an hour of cartoons with daddy when she wakes up, and that's it. It was harder in the winter when we'd finish dinner and then still have hours before bedtime, but now we just go outside.

And goodness, flights don't count. We just flew home from vacation on a different flight than my husband, and it was non-stop snacks and cartoons. Sometimes you just have to go with what works.

i've become more relaxed about it in recent months. Especially since learning about what types of screentime is the worst and that an excessive amount is what is likely to have a negative impact. So with that in mind, i think we do quite well. LO never sits down and watches TV, but sometimes he gets hold of our iphones and we don't take it back right away. All he does is push the buttons and sometimes flips through pictures.

I also don't count Skype as screen time - he skypes with his grandparents several times a week and with myself at lunchtime when i am at work.

I have had to accept for a month and a half this summer that while my mom is watching him full time for us, she has the TV on the background sometimes. I can't argue with her about it when she is doing us such a huge favor. He doesn't sit and watch it though and it is not on all day long.

Long road trips are a definite exception to my screen rule, but even them he doesn't watch something for 6 hpurs straight, i just use my iphone as a distraction.

Going well! LO is almost 18 months. We never watch TV around him, but it's been on in the background at other people's houses a few times. I feel rude asking for the TV to be turned off if it's not my house, so I only comment if it's something inappropriate or I gently nudge ("can we turn this down so I can hear you better while we talk?" sometimes gets the TV turned off-- and I really am asking so I can hear the conversation better). Other than that, he's had maybe 1-5 minutes a few times per week of looking at photos on my phone or playing a slow paced toddler game when he's freaking out for a diaper change.

We're pretty good with it. I'm a SAHM so we're home a lot during the day but we just don't really have the tv on much other than first thing in the morning and early evening to catch up on the news. I prefer to have audiobooks on when we're home (we're working our way through Harry Potter) but even when I do have the tv on, DD1 still shows no interest at 23 months old.

I won't lie, I was trying to get her into watching a program or two in preparation for our long, long flights from Australia to the US, hoping she would watch something on the iPad whilst on the plane, but she just has zero interest in watching anything. We do use the iPad on occasion for an interactive game or two, but she only went through a brief phase of being into it and now she's over the iPad too. She prefers reading books to any other activity....who am I complain?!

@allison: same here! We try to avoid it, which isn't that hard since our tv is in the basement. But occasionally I just wanted him to SIT this winter - especially when I was in my first tri and he had croup and RSV. So we would try tv shows. Didn't work too well. But he will watch animal shows a little better, like Jack Hanna or the Dog Whisperer.

To be fair, we FaceTime with family almost once a day.

We're going good. Lorelei turned two in March, and has had a grand total of about an hour? Probably less. It's all been live stuff, pretty much exclusively animals, and after age two. It's just one of my things. I'm totally the girl who never tried pot because she was scared to kill brain cells ;) Clearly, all our kids will be just fine. Mine just may end up more neurotic.

LO only gets screentime when we are at restaurants and she gets too out of control/occasionally in the car to avoid car naps (even a 5 minute nap can ruin her sleep for the rest of the day). Both of those happen maybe 4-5 times/ month, usually for 20-30 minutes. She's at home with the nanny during the day, but in and out for classes, parks, play groups, etc. and gets no screentime. I think we are doing pretty good (LO is 16 months).

LO is in daycare during the week which makes it really easy. So no tv during the week and on the weekend we're usually busy running errands or going to the park/museum/etc. We almost always have the tv off unless she's napping or asleep for the night. She does love watching videos of herself on my iPhone, though :silly: She doesn't realize it's her and laughs hysterically at the baby on the screen.

My 3 year old gets 1 show when he wakes up and 1 show after nap ( so a little less than an hour). Not sure if that's a lot or a little, but it's what works for us. My 14 month old will sometimes watch then, but not for the whole show. The only time I ever specifically put on a show for my young toddler was during illnesses.

M will only sit and watch TV for about 10 minutes - I let her watch Sesame Street. But after a few minutes, she's ready to do other things which is absolutely fine with me. I do have the TV on sometimes during the day but she doesn't really pay attention to it and it's mostly when she's falling asleep to go down to nap anyway - it's my little bit of entertainment time ;)

Going strong at 18m. We watched 3 minutes of a frozen music video on my phone this week when I had the stomach flu and it was so nice for the snuggles. Makes me excited for curling up and watching a movie when he is older!

We are definitely in the low screentime camp, philisophically. But I can't get this kid to watch a show for the life of me! I'm in my first tri of my second pregnancy, my LO is 16 months old, and sometimes mama just needs a break to lie on the couch and snooze. Maybe I haven't found the right show (we've only tried Daniel Tiger and Dinosaur Train), but he will only watch for 5 minutes. Which, I mean, I'm happy about, I guess. But also sad. Ha.

@Mrs. Sketchbook: I, personally, really don't feel badly at all about 30-45 minutes a week at 18 months! It'd be less, but her dad likes that she'll snuggle in with him to watch, and I can't say I blame him! I say pat yourself on the back for a job well done in making it that long

Well... we are so/so. She's in daycare all day so no TV then, and we've only actually sat her down in front of the TV a couple times (when we were both sick and miserable), so I mean, she doesn't actually *watch* TV, but it's definitely on a LOT on the weekend as background noise.

@rattles: I found it was pretty easy until LO got to that age as well. That's right about when he dropped his second nap so I didn't have near as much alone time to get stuff done around the house. Plus that was in the winter too! That's also when I got preg.

generally, she only watches in the morning while we're trying to get ready for work. Otherwise, after daycare, it's play time, dinner time, bath time and bed. The weekends are usually pretty jam packed so she doesn't get too much screen time unless it's an unusually slow weekend. But if at any point, one of us is sick, has a huge work load or needs "an extra pair of hands" .... we whip out the ipad.

I'm a SAHM, and she made it until 16 months when I had horrendous morning sickness. For a couple of days, she got some screen time to cope. Once I was out of the hospital-level sickness, we went back to no screen time. Now at almost 18 months, I let her watch an episode of Daniel Tiger once or twice a week, and she sometimes watched soccer with DH on weekend mornings. I get my own tv fix during naps or after she's in bed. It was really hard to keep her busy this winter though!

Doing well, but like others have said, it's not hard when you WOH. All bets are off with the 14 hour flight we have coming up, though.

It depends on what you consider low? We limit it to 20 minutes/day (she's 2 years old), even on the weekends. She knows she only gets two short episodes or 1 long episode and can't have both.

Our winters are long where i live, so she got more screen time back then. Now that it's summer we're always out so she doesn't ask for it. It's also easier in our house because the tv is in the basement so anything she watches is from our laptop.

I think when you're a SAHM, it's harder to limit screen time. I wouldn't feel too guilty about it, but i really would consider a babysitter of some kind if you're also having to work/study.

Really great but the kids go to daycare and don't watch TV there or at home during the week. LO 1 is two and watches maybe 15-30 minutes every weekend. We also let her watch Frozen (it took a few days to finish) on our recent vacation week.

Screen time rules will be on hold during the World Cup!

We are doing much better now that the weather is warm and we can be outside. This winter we were snowed in so much and it was just too cold to be outside that we watched a lot of movies
