I would do it after DH returns to work and at a time frame that guarantees baby will be here when your mom is here. My due date is 8/27 and my mom has been here a week already. But she's planning on staying 2-3 months.

I voted other for the same reason as @jmarionsmith. In my case, my DH goes back to work after a week, so that is when I'll be needing my mom's help. Which will be even more important if I end up with another c-section since I won't be able to lift my 15 month old for at least two weeks, and since he can't walk yet that is completely impossible to accomplish without help!

we're planning on having my mom fly out two weeks after my due date, and then she'll stay for about two weeks. That's what she did with my first, so i'm hoping it'll work well again with my second.

my in-laws came the week I was in labor/@ hospital, and we really needed their help with LO#1, to take care of her while we were in the hospital with LO#2. i thought we managed pretty well after that once we were all home together.

I agree with @Mrs. Lion, whew, two weeks is a long time to stay. My mom came for 10 days after DD was born and I was ready to do the mom thing on my own. Haven't really thought about it yet for this baby, but probably come right after the birth and stay for a week...

My LO isn't in daycare, so we do have a need for childcare. We're planning on them being here for the two weeks following birth. They'll take care of LO while I'm in the hospital and help out a ton after. I ended up with a transfusion after LO1 was born due to anemia (we think). I'm very anemic again, so the chances of another transfusion are pretty high. Those first two weeks were incredibly hard because I was so weak.

I voted 2 weeks, my DH can only take a week off, so I will want my mom to stay with me the next week (recovering from a section.)

I voted other, but my husband stays at home already, so I don't really need to have my mom around to help out. I told her to wait until the kid is a couple of months and is more interactive!

I personallly wouldnt want them coming at all. Maybe for a day to play with lo1 after dh goes back to work, but definitely not to stay for 2 weeks.

I feel like the first two weeks are a grace period. Then weeks 3-6 are rough! Then they start smiling and things get easier-ish. But with a c-section I needed lots of help in the beginning because just getting up was hard. VBAC was easier so I would have them come later!

my mom hopped on a plane as soon as i was in labor. (she's in ca we're in ny). olive ended up having an extended stay in the hospital so we needed her to care for charlie because i stayed at a hotel by the hospital for a week.

i guess the early days are pretty easy the second time around though because they sleep so much in the beginning, and you're not a first time mom.

i was originally supposed to have a c-section though, and i think extra help would be great the first week. then again... my recovery was worse with a vbac than it was with a c-section though because i had to walk back and forth from the hotel.

i guess it all depends on your recovery. if it's easy then having her come after 2 weeks might be better. if it's hard, best for her to be there right away!

I voted 3+ weeks. The first two weeks were easy. Then baby started staying awake longer, husband went back to work, the adrenaline and hormones wore off and tanked....

yea weeks 3-6 were hell.

I voted other. If your DH is taking any time off from work, I would want extra help after he goes back not while he is home.

What time frame would you prefer if they were going to come for two weeks? This is assuming that you'll be getting complete help from them (i.e., they'll be doing the cooking, cleaning, etc.) and LO #1 will be in daycare. Will your answer change if you end up having a c-section?

I realize this doesn't really apply to those who have family nearby. This is really a question for those who don't have family close by.

I originally thought i'd want them to come when i have the baby, but we have some options for when i go into labour. I found the first two weeks relatively easy (minus the trip to the hospital because of her jaundice) and the worst was from week 3 to 6!
