In my case, my DH goes back to work after a week, so that is when I'll be needing my mom's help. We're planning on them being here for the two weeks following birth. They'll take care of LO while I'm in the hospital and help out a ton after. I ended up with a transfusion after LO1 was born due to anemia (we think). I'm very anemic again, so the chances of another transfusion are pretty high. Then weeks 3-6 are rough! Then they start smiling and things get easier-ish. But with a c-section I needed lots of help in the beginning because just getting up was hard. This is assuming that you'll be getting complete help from them (i.e., they'll be doing the cooking, cleaning, etc.) and LO #1 will be in daycare. Will your answer change if you end up having a c-section?</p> <p>I realize this doesn't really apply to those who have family nearby. This is really a question for those who don't have family close by.</p> <p>I originally thought i'd want them to come when i have the baby, but we have some options for when i go into labour. I found the first two weeks relatively easy (minus the trip to the hospital because of her jaundice) and the worst was from week 3 to 6! </p>
