I had mine a few weeks ago, and ate cheese about 1.5 hrs beforehand. My test was first thing in the morning, and I don't eat eggs, so I wanted something with a decent amount of protein in it, but little to no carbs/sugar. I passed my test!

@BabyPenguinXO: @dc yoga bee: Wow that's quick! I'm totally chill about this test, though. I have zero signs of it, didn't have it last time, and even if i DO have it, the way i eat now is pretty close to what I would have to eat ;) I'd be most bummed that i can't have some of E's birthday cake in April, LOL

The nurse practitioner I saw today was like "oh no big deal" when i told her i ate. See?! All over the place! And it turns out the drink didn't make me sick this time. It had to have been the empty stomach+fasting combo last time. I was totally unphased (if not on a bit of a sugar high) after I had it. I feel off anyways since i have yet another cold, but...*shrug*

My midwives told me not to fast. I was supposed to have my test at 11am, so I ate 2 eggs and a piece of sausage at 8am. Then my test was put off a couple of hours (grrrrr!!), so I ended up eating some tuna salad at 11am. I passed the test! I also got really light-headed and nauseous and had to lie down in the doctor's office.

I didn't realize they were going to give me the 1 hour test early at my 9 week appointment due to family history. So I went through the drive through and ate lunch on my way to the doctor's office. I would have chosen something different had I known about the test. I definitely would not have had a sweet tea! Thankfully I still passed though.

@BabyPenguinXO: haha right. PANCAKES! They sound much better than glucola. blechhhh. I didn't have any juice or soda before my last scan and the tech had to poke the baby awake a few times. I think the drink would've made me thrown up at 12 weeks. I was still on a strict diet of crackers and flavored (sugared) pelligrino sodas.

Yeah I'm in camp of eating what you normally eat. You don't want to try and beat the test falsey. So if you're eating a normal breakfast for you that's perfect :)

My MFM uses a 10 point stricter cutoff. I did the early screen at 12w and passed but I have it again next appt at 24. I'm kinda counting on having it cause I barely i passed.

What sucks is I have a scan before the appt and I tend to have a sugary drink for that becasuse I have the most stubborn baby in the universe. But that's not a regular thing but i def don't want to add that the day I test. I wish I could eat like 2 big buttery syrupy pancakes or something and not that God awful drink. The 3hr with twice as much.. Omg noooo

@blackbird: yeah, so weird, especially since that was a totally normal breakfast for me, and I generally eat pretty healthy. When I talked to the Dr about it he said it's common for food to me with the results even if high protein, but it doesn't for everyone, they do not require fasting for the one hour.

@Rainbow Sprinkles: if your two hour test is like the one we have in New Zealand then the first blood test they do is fasting glucose -hence no eating for twelve hours.

When I did my one hour test the tech was impressed that I'd had my low gi porridge for breakfast!

@Rainbow Sprinkles: that's nuts! My dr was just like "meh. Don't say anything to the tester or they'll freak out". I'm guessing she is aware of the conflicting info but is required to tell us to do it a specific way. @MrsStormy: ugh weird! I would think itd be the safest choice. How can people eat oatmeal and toast and sugary stuff and pass, but not eggs?! I don't get it @sarac: Ew surprise GD test ;-/

Also weird that some people have am appts and some have afternoon. My dr said they ONLY do mornings

We do health screenings at work and my non fasting numbers are always 75-90, so if they're way different, I'll think something is up.

My midwife told me just don't drink oj before my one hour, so I planned on eating eggs. At the last minute, I talked to my mom who is a nurse, and my dad is a physician assistant, and he told me you always fast for a glucose test. So, I fasted, and sure enough when I walked into the lab the first thing they asked me was, "you fasted right?" Sooo glad I fasted, and didn't get a false positive. I think if I was borderline I would've been suspicious, but I passed with flying colors, and ate normally the days leading up to it ,(including nachos two nights before, and coldstone the night before). I just fasted from 10pm until my 9am test. If I absoluty had to eat, I'd pick protein for sure. I have a sweet tooth, and thought the orange drink was tasty :p

I ate almost that exact breakfast and failed the one hour, I fasted for the three hour and passed with flying colors (although I felt like total crap sitting and after). I think next time even though it won't be fun I will fast for the one hour in his of not having to do the three hour if I don't have to.

It's so interesting to me that some doctors allow eating beforehand, because I begged my OB to let me eat. The first time I took the GD test, I was sick for 24 hours (like I got hit by a truck). I eat pretty low sugar and it just killed me. So my second pregnancy, I tried to do whatever I could to make it easier on my body. And my OB was like "you absolutely have to fast for 12 to 15 hours before the test or you will fail it, or get a false fail. There is NO WAY to get accurate numbers if you eat." Was she just being nuts or what?

Also, my office doesn't offer the 1 hour. Only 2 hour or 3 hour! I took a 2 hour both times.
