I would think that if you have been struggling to help her get naps in it might actually help her night sleep since generally sleep begets sleep. I also agree that babies seem to know there are differences between night and day sleep. Fingers crossed it works for you!

I just read this and thought of you:

I like the concept she writes about. Makes me want to wear my rapidly getting heavier baby tomorrow!

I babywore for naps until LO was 7 months and was simply too heavy. That was the only way I could get him to nap. He was a great night sleeper. I do recall reading in one of the sleep books that they recognize the difference between day time and night time sleep.

I was really inconsistent about naps. Half the time I would wear her, sometimes I would hold her, other times she napped in the swing. Everyone warned me that she would be an awful night time sleeper, but she always slept wonderfully in her own crib every night! :) Not sure if I just got lucky or what, but it definitely didn't affect my daughter's ability to sleep on her own. Good luck! :)

I wore LO for naps a lot when she was a newborn and she's never had trouble sleeping independently at night.

DS moved to his crib at 3 months old (before that he was in our room). At least 1 of his naps was while I wore him and he slept just fine in his crib at night.

I ALWAYS wore LO for naps during my maternity leave and she slept in her RnP - I think she slept better at night when I wore her during the day and we never co-bedded.

I'm not sure about the impact on independent sleep, because we babywore/bed-shared and I wore her during all naps until she was about ten months (assuming I remember right ;) ). I find that babywearing has some wonderful repercussions in many areas; it can help with balance and physical awareness, with forming a close relationship, with language acquisition... it's really cool stuff. I certainly didn't notice any negative effects once she started napping independently and sleeping independently for the first stretch at night between babywearing/sleep.

@Foodnerd81: ok that's good to know! Dh doesn't like the idea of co-sleeping so I don't want to spend all day wearing her to get her to nap if it means we'd have to resort to that at night. Though at this point I really don't see what other choice I have, besides holding her for naps.

Hmmm..I don't know. He slept poorly at night no matter what we did but seemed to sleep better during the day when we wore him, so we did that a lot. I also enjoyed having him close :)

no experience, but i feel like babies' brains work differently when it comes to naps vs. nighttime sleep, so i say if the babywearing works for naps, go for it!

Well you know I have a terrible sleeper, but I actually found she was calmer in the evenings when I wore her more during the day. It did not seem to hurt her sleep ever- probably since she just wasn't napping at all otherwise.

We are trying out a new nap tactic this week- baby wearing! S sleeps pretty well by herself at night, so just wondering if wearing her during the day will affect this?
