Then I started keeping formula and bottles with me for emergencies. It just took up less room. It depended if DH was with me too and where we were going (grandmas house versus the mall....). I haven't tried to nurse in public yet. If somewhere I am comfortable BF in public I will. But if not I will do a bottle of formula. Then just pump when we get home. Course that depends on how long we will be gone. I would either take a bottle of pumped milk, if we were going to a place I could warm it, and stick it in small soft sided cooler with a few ice packs. I never had any go bad that way. Otherwise I would find a private place to nurse. He is not a fan of the cover so I even brave it some of the time, covering my breast with my hand before he latches on.</p> <p>I also supplement with formula and depending on where we go, I will sometimes bring a bottle. So I just pump before we leave and pop the bottle into my bag. If I'm worried about heat, I stick the bottle in a tiny cooler bag with an ice pack to keep it fresh. </p> <p>And then I also have pre-made formula in my diaper bag ready to go if she needs more than the breastmilk. </p> <p>I'd be totally happy to nurse her anywhere, anytime, but she is very particular about being comfortable to nurse so she often refuses if we are out and there are things that are distracting or she isn't physically comfortable with the nursing positions we can do. </p> https://boards.hellobee.com/topic/if-you-bf-and-use-formula#post-898319 Mon, 01 Jul 2013 11:12:55 +0000 Ra 898319@https://boards.hellobee.com/ <p>What do you do when you go out in public/day trip?</p> <p>I breast feed, pump, and occasionally supplement with formula. I am not really comfortable BFing in public yet because I use nipple shields and it makes it difficult to coordinate because LO bats them off a lot of the time.</p> <p>I prefer him to have breast milk over formula, but I am always paranoid to take bottles of pumped milk in case he doesn't eat them and then they will go to waste. </p> <p>What do you usually do? BF in public? Pumped milk bottles? Or use formula when you are out and about? </p>
