Yes, but he was not remotely interested in latching on. The first time he latched on was 24 hours after birth, and it was hit or miss for another 24 hours or so. I spent a lot of time doing skin-to-skin on my chest when he would not latch. After my milk came in, he nursed like a champ.

I had skin-to-skin immediately after her birth despite the emergency c-section. She probably latched 45 minutes in to it.

We had skin-to-skin right away, while I got stitched up. I tried to get her to latch immediately but she didn't want to and the MW and nurse said it can often take a little while for babies to want to latch. I'd say it was 30-45 minutes before she started rooting for my breast. The hospital I delivered at wants the babies weighed and measured within 2 hours of birth and we took almost every minute of that. She was on me the whole time except a few seconds when they cut the cord and the nurse toweled her off a bit.

No, I had a c section as well. He stayed with me while they closed the incision, etc and we nursed as soon as we were in recovery. Not sure how long that was...maybe 30 min? He latched no problem and never had trouble nursing from a latch standpoint. He did have a tongue tie which caused issues for us, but not from delayed nursing after birth

I had skin to skin right away when I was getting "cleaned up" for about 30 mins but she didn't latch then, she was sleeping. Then she was weighed, cleaned off, DH and grandmas held her and then everyone left and I tried BF with nurse. She latched for a minute or two but subsequent feedings went much better. I was happy to have the skin to skin right away but we didn't Bf for at least an hour.

they put him on my chest for a few seconds, but then they took him for cleaning/vitals/apgar tests. about 15 minutes later, they put him back on my chest for skin to skin and nursing. he did latch, although that did not predict an easy start for our breastfeeding journey!

No. D wasn't breathing when he was born, so they took him to get his lungs working. By the time they brought him to me (about 5-10 minutes) he was already all wrapped up. Then they took him to spend the night in the nursery so they could monitor his breathing. He was born a few minutes before midnight, and they kept him in the nursery for 6 hours to monitor. But as soon as they brought him to me the next morning, we nursed and he latched perfectly!

I had her skin to skin immediately for about 5 minutes. Then they had to suction her lungs in case she aspirated meconium, but that only took about 15 minutes. She came right back after that, and my doula helped her latch immediately. We did skin to skin for about an hour before I needed to be stitched up (and let my husband hold her, lol).

No, I had an emergency c-section & they quickly showed her to me and rushed her to NICU due to breathing issues, they needed to get her on oxygen. I went down there after recovery to see her and hold her for the first time but no feeding. I was pumping because she was a "lazy" baby and didn't want to do things for herself (breathe, eat, ect.) I think we were doomed with breastfeeding from the beginning.

We did skin to skin, but neither baby latched on at that point. I thought it was weird because they're "supposed" to just go for it. I guess being on the outside was just too exciting :D Later on both started nursing fine and no problems...

No, LO was immediately taken to the NICU. I held him about an hour after delivery, but he had a bunch of tubes in him that wouldn't work for BFing. We finally got to BF about 9 hours later after he'd been through a bunch of procedures. We were successful, thanks in large part to a fantastic NICU nurse. I continued to nurse him for 2.5 years, so I think the moral of our story is "all's well that ends well".

No, I had an emergency C-section and was on mag sulfate for 24 hours after his birth so I didn't get skin to skin or try to latch until 24-36 hours after he was born. He had a decent latch though and with lots of help in the NICU he was able to breastfeed along with getting pumped milk from a bottle!

With my first I didn't have as much time to attempt breastfeeding, and they took him to be weighed and measured within 5 minutes. With my second they gave me an hour or so before taking him. Both kids were pretty tired after labor.

With DS I had skin to skin immediately and BF within 20 minutes. However he had a poor latch and we had a ton of problems.

With DD I had skin to skin immediately but she was born at 37w2d and was SO sleepy that she passed out right away. She was incredibly sleepy the first 48 hours and I kept trying to feed her but each session would only last about 2 minutes before she fall asleep again. FWIW, we didn't get into a regular feeding rhythm until she was about 5-6 days old, but my supply was fine.

I bf'd within probably thirty min but I didn't do immediate skin-to-skin. I don't think that is what was responsible for my "failure" at breastfeeding though. I think ppd was #1, lack of drive/motivation to bf (I wanted to but not as badly as it seems a lot of other moms want to, just being honest), and #3 not following up with a LC. In fact, no LC at the hospital checked our latch either. Just asked how it was going and said it's ok if you're hurting. Not exactly helpful.

This is kind of the opposite of your question, but I was not able to breastfeed exclusively despite having skin-to-skin and an opportunity to BF right away. I'm not sure that one really depends on the other as much as some people would lead you to believe.

Nope, LO passed meconium and was vacuumed out so the respiratory therapists and neonatologist were checking her out and suctioning her first. Then when she was placed on my chest (10? Minutes later), the neonatologist told me not to feed her for a while. But LO crawled all the way to the breast and wanted to latch, so I begged to be able to. We've had a great bf relationship so far at 8 months.

We did immediate skin to skin and I remember A latching on but then I remember the midwife hand expressing colostrum and syringe feeding A while I was stitched up. I never asked her why A was syringe fed but I suspect it was something to do with her traumatic delivery and the need to make sure she got maximum colostrum with minimum effort.
