I started charting in the middle of an 80+ day cycle, so counting that one, it took four cycles but about 6-7 months.

Charting really helped because it made me aware of the little signs that my body gives off every cycle, as I'm sure you'll read in TCOYF. I did try different things along with charting and temping - tried guaifenesin one month, BD'd more, BD'd less. The cycle I got pregnant, we used Pre-Seed. We BD'd every other day after my period ended but closer to my fertile week, then every day of the two days I had EWCM. I'm now a couple of days shy of eight weeks.

Good luck and I hope you find charting helpful!

Why were you on clomid, and were your clomid cycles monitored -- as in, did the doctor check to see whether your follicles were growing and how many there were?

I charted for 10 months, some while on fertility treatment, some not. We ended up going with injectable medication + IUI (and I charted during that cycle, too, to make sure I didn't ovulate before the IUI). We did three clomid cycles (unmonitored), one unmonitored femara cycle and three monitored femara cycles (didn't respond well to it), a natural cycle IUI based on a positive OPK, then went back to clomid for a cycle before we brought out the "big guns" of injectables + IUI.

Charting is a great tool, but if you have another issue that's preventing you from getting pregnant (IE, you don't ovulate on your own or you have undiagnosed male factors), it's not really going to help. If your issue is timing or you just want to take a break from meds (which I totally understand, btw), it's definitely worthwhile. I took cycle-long breaks from treatment, but always charted and took OPKs on those months just in case. And several times we were able to catch my O -- it just didn't help us!

I charted the first 3 months, and then stopped charting and just BD every other day, and that's when we got our BFP - cycle four. My advice is to TRY and not stress out! We had to stop charting because it was getting so stressful! I think a lot of women are the opposite- charting helps them calm down. Either way, good luck!

I got pregnant 6th month of charting (also 6th month of TTC). Charting helped me realize I wasn't producing very much EWCM, so I ended up using pre-seed during cycle 6 (BFP cycle).

I got pregnant my 4th month of charting, but I think it was the CBE Fertility Monitor that did the trick. Charting was helpful to confirm O after the fact but I need other implements to help predict it.

After 5-6 months of trying with OPKs, I charted the end half of a cycle (because I read TCOYF in the middle of a cycle and wanted to practice charting), and then got pregnant on the first full cycle I charted. LO is 7 months old :)

I was charting before we were married or even thinking about TTC so I already was pretty aware of my cycles and had charting pretty much down when we started trying. I got pregnant the first cycle, MC'd, took a cycle off, got pregnant the next cycle, MC'd, took 2 cycles off for testing and medication adjusting and got pregnant the following cycle with our sticky baby. So technically the charting was successful each time. I ovulate late and irregularly too so I highly doubt we would have been able to conceive as easily without charting.

I charted for a few months after coming off BCP and before we started TTC. I got pregnant on our second cycle of TTC.

In terms of tips, I found that charting cervical position along with CM and temp was super helpful. It took awhile to know what I was feeling, but once I got the hang of it it was incredibly helpful with predicting and confirming ovulation.

Best of luck to you - charting is awesome!

I charted and used opks for 5 months before a BFP. It was very informative but it also made me obsessive about temps and definitely found myself over analyzing my chart. I highly recommend it though as it definitely teaches you alot about your body. The only top I have is to not be a stickler on the time you temp. Obviously if you can take it at the same time each day that would be best but if you happen to sleep in or wake up early taking that temp is ok too. I rarely took mine at the same time each day, I just made sure I took it after a solid 3 hours of sleep and I was always able to see a clear temp shift to confirm ovulation.

I've been charting for 8 months with no luck, but I do recommend it - it can show you patterns that can identify possible issues (annovulation, short LP, late ovulation, etc)

Everyone's charting journey is different. I've been charting for 5 cycles now and still am not pregnant. But it definitely is so eye opening and helps you predict pregnancy and periods and ovulation. I would certainly recommend it.

I was pretty similar to @sslm. I got pregnant on my second try, miscarried, and then got pregnant on my first try with lo after that.

I never had any infertility issues or reasons to think I need to chart..... I'm just impatient and a planner and wanted to get pregnant. NOW and feel like I was doing everything in my power to make it happen. And it worked :)

I've done 4 cycles of Clomid, but recently picked up Taking Charge of Your Fertility based on all the recommendations here. It's been pretty eye-opening, and I'm actually going to stop Clomid for now (I can only do another 1 or 2 cycles anyways) and try charting!

For those of you who charted and got BFPs, how many cycles did it take?!

Any particular tips?
