I stopped at 15 weeks. My supply plummeted when I went back to work -- I was pumping two hours to get 6 ounces and then when I was off the day I stopped he wouldn't nurse from me b/c he wanted a bottle.

I stopped BFing around 7 months, partly by choice partly not. I have a really stressful job with lots of meetings and my goal was to make to 6 months still pumping. I made it and then started cutting out pumps. Then I got really sick and needed decongestants so I could function. My supply took a huge hit and I got worried that I wasn't making enough for him. It was really hard on weekends to try to BF him all day and I couldn't really get the hang of just supplementing. So I made the decision to not try to bring my supply back up and just be done. I liked breastfeeding and I'm a little sad that we stopped.

i know two people who chose not to breastfeed from the get-go. they didn't feel breastfeeding was for them. i think it is wonderful that moms have a choice between breastmilk and formula. i really respect these women's decisions--there is so much pressure to breastfeed in certain circles these days, i think it is empowering to be able to choose otherwise.

@Charm54: i felt that way about bottle feeding too...every single day i dreaded nursing and looked forward to our bottle feedings. At 4 months i decided to ep instead and it was sooooo much better!

I put 10 months. I had been ep'ing at that point for 6 months and it just got to be too much. Additionally we wanted to ttc again and af hadnt returned, and i was really struggling to lose the weight that i wanted to lose before having another baby. I decided the benefits to my sanity and health were worth it to our family at that point, as was lo having a sibling close in age. The weight loss was a big factor because i got to a weight during my first pregnancy where i was really unhappy and uncomfortable and i didnt want to add another pregnancy to that, knowing that it would affect my ability to care for my toddler in an active engaged way. It was a hard decision at the time, but once i made up my mind i have never regretted it. In 6 months i was able to lose 32 lbs, and lo is still happy healthy and thriving. I actually decided that if i have to ep for the next baby i am stopping at 6 months. The stress of it and time away from the kids to pump just isnt worth the trade off to me after 6 months.

I stopped pumping at 5 months and stopped breast feeding just after 6 months. It was too much with being back at work and I wanted my body back. I don't regret my decision.

Technically I chose to stop...but I guess you could say I was pushed! I struggled with low supply and we started supplementing at 4 months. LO just needed more and more formula and by 5 months I couldn't be bothered doing both any longer as we had started solids and didn't want to do BF+FF+solids.

If I could go back, I would have stopped earlier and stressed less about doing so. BF wasn't as important to me as I thought it would be and now LO is a bright and happy 10 month old who has never even had a cold! :)

By 1 month I had stopped and was EPing/supplementing. A few reasons:

-low supply
-worry over if dd was getting enough
-my mental health
-I had a lot of support and people who wanted to help with feedings, including overnight. This mama wasn't about to turn down a full nights sleep
-I wasn't comfortable NIP or in front of guests so it always felt like I was banished to a back room
-for me, bottle feeding was much more of a bonding experience

All in all, EPing and supplementing was a wonderful thing for our family and I have no regrets. I will bottle feed the next baby even if bfing magically became "easy"!

@Beebug: that's kind of the boat I'm in at 5 months. Wanting to just be done for my own selfish reasons. Also because my baby has a pretty vicious latch/suck. Owie.

4 months on the nose for mental health. Wanted my body back and was very "over" bf'ing. Selfish perhaps, but no regrets!

I stopped at 9 months for LO 1. I was pregnant and I wasn't making much milk so it didn't seem worth it to continue.

I stopped around 11 months. My supply had been low for awhile and I staryed supplementing around 6-7 months. LO just kinda stopped on her own (I think bottle was easier). To be honest, I was ready to be done. I was able to EBF for 6 months (my primary goal) and then I worked extremely hard to keep my supply up to provide most of her milk. I worked long days and was pumping 4-5x at work. I guess we were both just done!

I stopped around 7 months. I went back to work at 5 months, hated pumping, was having to supplement anyway, so finally decided to just quit and formula feed til she turned 1. No regrets whatsoever. I HATED BFing for the first 3 months so I'm happy I made it to 7!

I stopped at 5 months. I drastically cut back at 4 months when we discovered J's lactose intolerance - just a morning and evening feed, the rest were on hypoallergenic formula. My supply tanked after that, though. I knew I didn't want to give up dairy, so I did choose to stop. Bit I was still sad when it ended, and if future LO's have dairy issues, I might give elimination diets a try.

I didn't really want to stop, and I wasn't completely dry yet, but LO would only nurse coming out of naps or middle of the night starting Around maybe 9 or 10 months. When I tried nursing her "awake" she'd FREAK OUT. I think she was just preferring the fast bottle. It was a long drawn out decision and very difficult for me but I finally stopped trying to make her "like" nursing again.
