wouldn't say we are really a cosleeping family as i am working to get our newborn used to his bassinet rather than attached to me all night but dd (5yo) sneaks in pretty often especially in the winter. i couldn't handle two kids in the bed and their dad but my mil said her oldest preferred to sleep in her own bed when baby came because of the noise. i have however brought baby into dd's room in the morning to change his diaper and she has slept through his howling.

We got a sleep nest to put LO in when she's tiny, because of the smothering fear. Might that be an option? It's basically just a little bed for her in our bed.

4 yr old on one side and baby on the other. We have the PnP up against the wall on my 18 mo olds side. I intended to have her sleep in the PnP, but somewhere alone the lines very early on she never made it back there

DH sleeps downstairs on a futon mattress :silly: lol I'm hoping to get these two out of my bed before baby arrives.

ETA: DH works an off shift. He also isn't found of the nursing sound so started sleeping elsewhere because of that then with his work schedule it just makes more sense. If I can get them into their rooms I'm hoping he will come back to bed with me lol.

I will say that amazingly each can sleep through each other's cries.

Baby brother slept in the rock n play next to me. Big brother sleptn between me and DH. DS1 never woke up when his brother cried. But I usually grabbed DS2 pretty quickly and fed him. Then back in the rnp he went and we all went back to sleep. We transitioned him to his crib between 2-3 months. If he had a bad night, back in the rnp he went. By the time he outgrew the rnp, he was STTN. That lasted until about 8-9 months. He still starts off in his crib, but if he wakes up (which happens about 1/2 the time) he joins us in the bed. We have a king size and can all fit thought sometimes a bit squished. Each are on one side of me. I have my arm around baby brother and wake up if I feel him move to make sure he doesn't fall off. All this time big brother is still in our bed and he'll be 3 soon!

We had the baby sleep in a cradle next to the bed. Lo1 decided he didn't like the baby waking him up so he started sttn in his bed. It wasn't a fight at all - it was his decision.

@NovBaby1112: I have no practical advice on a cosleeping setup because we worked with our toddler to get him to sleep in his crib before no2 came but I can tell you that at least in our house our toddler has never woken up from the crying baby even when they sleep in the same room i.e. when traveling.

My 4 year old sleeps with us. I try to put the baby in the cosleeper BUT that is not her preference. Typically I sleep sitting up kinda and she is on my chest. First thing in the morning I will side lie feed with her between him and me. Otherwise we side lie with her between me and the co sleeper or or on my chest.

@NovBaby1112: oh ya, it's def not for everyone. I don't move at all in my sleep. But I have my toddler next to me and my newborn on the outside, like 2 feet from the toddler haha. But not near the edge of the bed. But when I'm awake and they nap, they are usually all over eachother.

@Maysprout: that is so cute they sleep next to each other! how adorable :) that is a good set up, thanks for sharing!

@anonysquire: haha...I am wayyy too nervous to sleep with infant! I was pretty paranoid with LO1 and had nightmares about accidentally suffocating her in our bed, even though she never slept with us!

@lady grey: we use a fan and AC now and its pretty much like white noise- we could def continue using the fan in the fall though- good idea. I will most likely take the baby out to living room to nurse/change diaper/etc.

We don't cosleep but some friends do. Could you use white noise so hopefully your toddler will sleep thru baby wake ups? You could also take baby out of the room for night time nursing (rocking chair in the living room or something?) unless you plan to sidelay nurse all night!

I didn't co sleep with my newborns. They slept next to our bed so we continued to mainly co sleep with toddler. We kinda had musical beds depending on dh work. Sometimes I'd set baby up in toddlers room so dh could get some sleep. Sometimes I'd be in our room and dh would fall asleep in toddlers room. Now that baby is a year and a half they fall asleep next to each other when dh is away or working nights.

I never thought I would be a co-sleeping kind of person, but here we are  LO (2.5 yrs) sleeps in bed with us every night. Neither of us mind, it works for us, but I'm just trying to figure out logistically how to handle when the baby arrives in the fall.

I cannot co-sleep with newborns/young infants- I get too freaked out about smothering them/etc. I was planning on having LO2 sleep in the basinet of the pack and play in our room, but I don't want him waking up LO1 either...

What was your set up if you co-slept with toddler?
