Thanks for the suggestions! DH is afraid of rolling onto LO. He is a heavy HEAVY sleeper so it's probably more dangerous to be in our bed (his dog sleeps up by his face and barks in his face through the night and it doesn't wake him up). We have a memory foam mattress that is very soft and just a little motion causes LO to roll, so I'm not totally comfortable with him sleeping in our bed.

We've only slept on the couch together a couple of times, it makes me nervous! I usually keep him in the rnp within arms reach when we're on the couch.

We cobed! With 2 kids. Haha.
When DS2 was smaller he slept against the wall and DS1 slept all the way on the other side of the bed, with both me and my SO between them. Now they both sleep in the middle together and often snuggle each other while sleeping. Sweetest thing ever!

I am currently in the process of transitioning my son to his own bed, but right now, he and I bunk together in his full sized bed. One side is pushed up against the wall right now.

LO sleeps between us in our bed.

The PP's are right - the couch is not a safe place to cosleep. I'm a big proponent of cosleeping but ONLY when done safely.

I would recommend putting a mattress on the floor in the nursery, personally. Why is your DH against having a family bed?

From 5-8 months we bed shared full time. Baby slept next to my husband (between him and the wall), and he'd hand her to me to nurse. I didn't mind this (I can't sleep next to a baby, but this worked) terribly, but she was waking up lots. She slept far, far better when we moved her to a floorbed in her nursery.

I personally don't buy the 'baby can sleep next to the mother but not the father'. Most adults will instinctively sleep safely next to a baby - they'll sleep lightly enough that they're aware of the baby and won't roll over. If they don't feel safe, they probably aren't. I personally am so aware of my baby that I can hardly sleep, so I don't bedshare. But my husband still sleeps with our 22 month old when she wakes in the night - it's really sweet.

With Ellie-- my ex-husband was not on board AT ALL, but I needed to go back to work and she was a crummy sleeper, so I told him that because I needed to work I needed to sleep, and I was going to bed-share with or without him. Ellie and I slept on a queen mattress on the floor in a different room. I bed-shared with her until she was four. When Mr. T and I started living together we were both uncomfortable with having her in bed with both of us, so when she would wake up in the night for the first time after Mr. T and I had gone to bed I would go in her room and sleep in her bed for the rest of the night. Usually that meant Mr. T and I got a good stretch of sleep together. Now with Lorelei we have bed-shared from the beginning with all of us in one bed. She is 16 months now and is starting to get a little bed-hoggish, so we are thinking of moving her to her room in the next several months and I will go in and sleep with her the rest of the night after her first wakeup like we did with Ellie.
**Was going to add that we do have an Arm's Reach co-sleeper, or, as we affectionately call it, "the world's largest nightstand." Unfortunately we just never ended up using it (other than to store my glasses, random books I'm reading, fingernail clippers...). But I do know lots of people who use theirs and love them, or who sidecar. :)

We co-bed, and DS sleeps in an Arms Reach co-sleeper sidecar, or between me and the sidecar. We have a queen size bed and DH works nights, so he's only in the bed a few nights a month. When he is, DS sleeps in the Rock n Play.

We only ever co-slept for the hours at the end of the night, so we didn't have a formal arrangement. DD would sleep between me and my husband. I usually draped an arm around her body, so I couldn't lose track of where she was. I was a light enough sleeper when we co-slept that I would never roll over on her.

We've cobedded since around 6 weeks (LO is 13 months now), and she sleeps between us, and has since we started cobedding. When she was little she was in a secure in-the-bed co-sleeper; now she just sleeps between us. We used to have a queen, now we have a king. King is much more comfortable, but the queen was fine until around 10 months.

She usually tucks against me in the night and early morning when it gets chilly. I am not looking forward to moving her out of the bed, I love snuggling with her.

ETA: My husband and I both love and support this arrangement. I would not sleep on a sofa with a LO for the night; I wouldn't be able to get any good sleep that way.

We have a queen bed & used the arms reach cosleeper until about 5 months when our son started to roll. He'd start the night in his space & migrate over between the cosleeper and myself after a nursing session. As he got bigger & we ditched the cosleeper, we started him in his crib and brought him to our bed in the night. He sleeps between my husband and I, which isn't recommended but I don't fully buy into the reasoning behind that.

Anyway, a cosleeper may be a good arrangement so you and your husband can still share a bed. If that wont work a twin mattress on the floor of the nursery would definitely be better than the couch!

We part time bed share as the need arises. If we bed share before 5am, Miss A and I sleep in the king single bed in her room (she's between me and the wall) and after 5am she sleeps between DH and I in our queen bed.

If we were full time bed sharing I would take away the base of our bed and just have the mattress on the floor.

very similar to @runsyellowlites - I credit this set up for allowing us to breastfeed as long as we did.
Once he could get out and off the bed (around 7 months) the crib moved to a nook in the corner of our bedroom. He goes there to fall asleep even if he wakes up in our bed.

We usually co sleep for the last couple hours of sleep or DS doesn't seem to want to go back to bed. If it is the three of us he sleeps closer to DH in the middle. If it is just the two of us he won't lay beside me and has to lay on top of me. We are starting to work on him spending the whole night in his bed.

For naps he mostly likes to be held, so I recline on the couch and he lays on top of me.

We co-bedded for about 6 months. It wasn't my first choice (it was actually something I swore I'd never do), but it was the only way DS would sleep. We pushed our bed against the wall (we have a low bed, even on the frame the top of the mattress is less than 2 ft off the ground). E usually slept between me and the wall (with DH on my other side). Occasionally during the night I'd move him to my other side--I had/have some hip problems pp, I couldn't stay on one side all night (usually I would crawl over him and gently scootch him over).

Most of the time he slept nestled into my side/boobs/armpits. When he slept between us my legs were almost always pulled up with my knees bent (like I was sitting in a chair, but sideways) and my lower arm was stretched out. DH was sleeping in a separate sleeping bag at the time and never moved around in his sleep, so I wasn't particularly concerned about him, but if he did roll over he'd roll over onto my legs/arm first (which would wake me up).

I always kept the blanket at my waist and lower and wore a cardigan or zip up sweatshirt if I got chilly.

Queen bed, between me and husband(which isn't recommended) or between me and the co sleeper. We are working on getting her into the co sleeper, because I think she wants more space. We use a light quilt and keep it folded at our waists. I sleep with her facing my belly. I have to switch the side she is on (hence her sometimes being btw me and husband) or else my hips hurt.

We had LO with us until she was three months. We had the arms reach cosleeper attached to our bed but found it better if she was actually with us in the beginning, she slept on my side Inbetween me and the cosleeper.

First, the couch is not a safe place to co-bed so I'm glad you're seeking out a better solution.

Second, we co-bed with a side car setup! For the most part P is one my side (usually in her "space") so she'll roll over to nurse & I often, literally, will roll her back over to her bed, since we've all gotten used to her presence she does also sleep between DH & I sometimes (I will usually move closer to her bed & so we're still mostly on my "side" and she's not really in the "middle").

Before we had to sidecar setup we took our mattress off the frame & pushed it up against the wall... she slept between me & the wall or with me against the wall & her near me in "between" us.

Dr. Sears has some great info on safely co-bedding
http://www.askdrsears.com/topics/parenting/sleep-problems/sleep-safety/safe-co-sleeping-habits
And I enjoyed this write up on it as well

What's your situation?

Do you, LO, and DH share a bed? Does LO sleep in the middle? On you? On DH?

I'm considering ditching his crib and replacing it with a twin mattress on the floor in the nursery for he and I to sleep on. DH doesn't want to sleep in the same bed as LO, so we sleep on the couch, but that's not ideal.
