@MrsBananaGrabber: For me, yes! I found I pumped more with it than with my PISA, plus the benefits of it being cordless (I was an EPer, so I was pumping A LOT).

Having said that, since I have a Freestyle I think this time around I want a Fremie.

@MrsBananaGrabber: in my opinion, yes! The Freestyle is battery operated and portable. And the battery lasts for a few days, so it works really well!

My insurance company lets me pick too :) Does the overall consensus seem to be Medala Freestyle over PISA?

I vote Hygeia! I had it with DD1 and am still using it for DD2 - works as good as new and they are 29 months apart. Love that you can adjust the speed and suction separately and they are a closed system meaning that the motor itself will never ever come in contact with milk. I was able to lend the pump to a friend (who just had to buy the accessory set) and not worry about cross contamination. It's bulky but, like PP said, I liked to sit back and relax during pumping so it didn't matter. The Medela pump parts work with it and I actually prefer them - cheaper and easier to find!

I really liked my Freestyle, and felt it was worth paying the extra $100 that my insurance didn't cover. I liked that I could move around and I thought it worked really well. I was worried about the power since it was battery operated, but I only ever needed to use it on one of the lower settings.

I will say that that the "portability" of it isn't really reality. Yes, the pump is light and can go in your purse. But you still need a ton of stuff to go with it. At a minimum you need pumping bottles, flanges, tubing, and hands-free bra. I also found I needed a burp cloth (lots of dripping, spilling, etc) and carried a thing of bags and pump to bag adaptors. So anyways, I ALWAYS needed the giant bag to carry all the crap you need.

Where did those of you get a freestyle? I'm covered but the two online retailers I can't get a freestyle through and I can't just go through target or anything it has to be a medical equipment supplier.

I have the PISA and I like it a lot. I kind of wish I had a freestyle though, cause being tethered to the wall is tough if LO is awake and moving around or if I am trying to fold laundry. 90% of the time, I am just sitting at my darn desk pumping anyway though so its NBD.

@MrsBrewer: Another vote for the Freestyle.

I work FT and EBFed LO1 and LO2 until their first birthdays (so I pumped a lot).

The freestyle is smaller, lighter, and portable (which means its easier to lug to the office, on business trips, or anywhere you are pumping). You can also move around while pumping (instead of having to stay tethered to a wall outlet).

When I was pregnant with LO2, I had the option of which pump I wanted (work also paid) and I got a second freestyle. That freestyle is still sitting in the box and I'm going to donate it now that I don't need it.

@MrsBrewer: Yep, I actually felt like my freestyle was a bit stronger, probably because it was newer. I never noticed that i pumped more with one or the other, i always pumped a pretty shitty quantity.

@MrsBrewer: Yeah the freestyle is a portable battery operated unit! I have both and the freestyle is great. I could put it in my bathrobe pocket, walk around the house and get coffee and pump before E woke up, then disconnect and go about my day. With my PISA, it had to be plugged into the wall and the cord wasn't super long, so i pretty much had to sit on one spot on the couch. I just hated being tethered like that. If i wanted to get up and pee or get water or the baby dropped her paci, i was able to do it. Plus the freestyle is smaller and was something i could drop in my purse and take with me. The PISA needed its own bag and everything.

You do have to remember to charge it, though! I can't remember if it had a wall plug in with it. But once i thought i plugged it in overnight but it fell out of the plug and i was like gahhhh it's dead.

@NeekieRose: I confirmed with my HR today actually about a pump, and all I need to do is bring a receipt into work, and my work will directly reimburse me for it, and they deal with the insurance company themselves :-) She's a mom as well, and also recommended that I don't skimp out on a pump! So I'm pretty sure any pump will be covered (within reason....probably not the symphony!!)

PISA is what I got last time and it worked well, but this time I am going to pay the difference to get the Freestyle. I'll keep the Freestyle at home and the PISA at work.

Also, just double check that they will really cover any pump. I was told that my insurance would cover any pump by an insurance phone rep, but when it came time to actually order from the medical supply company they said that was not the case, only an Ameda was covered. Super frustrating.

@MenagerieMama: I was pumping for a preemie and tthe LCs and nurses always said to relax in a quiet spot where you can think about your baby to get the best results. Tell you what it sure worked for me! I always pumped more bedside vs away from him. I think trying to do all that while pumping is good in theory but just doesn't seem realistic and I would personally worry about my supply. Also, I pumped into bottles and if I bent over to far the milk leaks out. There is a hole on the flange that milk will leak from if you're in the wrong position. But that was my experience as well as many in my birth group. People do often forget about the hands free bra though which is amazing!

@BabyPenguinXO: I don't know - I have the freestyle and the ability to move my LO from one spot to another, change her diaper, hang up laundry, crate the dogs so they don't go ballistic and wake up the baby when I see UPS approaching, etc etc all are worthwhile to me to be mobile while pumping even though 90% of the time I just sit and pump!

Medela PISA.

You really aren't going to walks round and pump for many reasons...

one you need to relax while you pump to get the most milk.

two the milk will pour out if you're trying to bend around and do things.

three, you can just buy a hands free bra and wuh-la! Hands free!

Also the symphony is a preemie pump that hospitals often carry that's why it's so spendy.
