My husband works a ton even though he gets to work from home a lot so it is helping us balance. We had my mom as a nanny until recently those 3 days but had to send DS to daycare starting in January and full time was really our only option, so he goes on Mondays and Fridays during which I try to get a lot of errands done or get extra rest during times like now when DS is having a lot of night wakings. Or to work overtime, which I will need to do the next few weeks while it's super busy at the office. If I'm home on M or F, I can get laundry and a lot of cooking and shopping done during that time we can spend more time together as a family on the weekends. </p> <p>DS will start a 2's program at a preschool in September that goes from 8:30-12:30 and you have 2, 3, 4 day options. Extended day is 2:30pm dismissal (basically they nap), or full day until 5pm (aftercare). I think while I'm on leave we will do 5 day a week half or extended care days so I can keep up with the new baby and then transition him to full time when I return to work because the infant toddler room for DS2 at the same facility is only a full time option. My plan is to keep the same work schedule when I go back to work and keep care options for Monday and Friday available by keeping the kids in full time. When everyone is eligible for school hours (so when DS2 can start the 2's program and DS1 is in pre-K), I will ideally transition to 4 days a week from 8-2pm or 830-230pm 4 days a week. I would probably want to stay there until both kids are in real school (so when DS2 starts kinder) at which point I would go 5 days a week at those hours and depend on aftercare or an afternoon mommys helper/nanny to pinch hit on days I have to work longer hours (they are predictable times 3-4 times a year). I really want to be present for kids school trips and be able to take them on activities when they are a little older but not yet in real school. Twice a year I do intervention M-Th 8-12 and it's glorious. If I could I'd do it permanently. I get to still be professionally stimulated, use my education, contribute to retirement and keep my skills current. My hours vary depending on the time of year, but I typically never work more than 45, though I work less sometimes.
