Figuring out house rules, cleaning, cooking, kitchen, etc etc is just too stressful and creates too many conflicts. But we were in separate floors with separate entrances but there's also an internal access through the entire house. Even then, sometimes it seemed too close for comfort but it was fine. We've sinced moved out of ny and had kids. I'm not sure I can do it with young kids but maybe when they get older. Our place is still there and we visit every so often. Right now both our parents live in small-ish homes and I think both DH and I would go crazy. </p> <p>My BIL and SIL are moving into a house right next to my in laws. BIL works on the family farm since he lost his teaching job. I think its much better than staying with them. I love visiting my parents, but could never live with them or near them again. I definitely couldn't live with my inlaws. My MIL would drive me nuts too. We both love each others very much but on a comfort level, I wouldn't want to live with my inlaws and don't think he would want to live with my parents. If we had to, I'm shrewd could make it work but it's not our ideal choice. I think it makes it too easy to turn to your parents for something instead of your spouse which will eventually start causing problems.
