My midwife recorded all my notes from pregancy, delivery and up to six weeks post partum in a special purpose book that I get to keep, she also mailed me a copy of my hospital notes. I love reading back through my notes and think it wil be interesting to compare when we decide to have number two. No one writes anything exciting in charts really. I had a fantastic midwife who gave me a copy of the hospital notes which were written during my induction which includes my blood pressure, fetal heartbeat, how many contractions and how I was handling them. Afterwards my midwife used these notes to write me a birth story from her perspective - it's super cool to read through and remember! I want to get my medical records so I can read all of the details. There's a page that says that there was some question as to whether or not my water actually broke. I woke up at 3am to use the restroom. I got back into bed and my water broke a minute later. Obviously, I didn't pee myself. I had just gone to the bathroom! Also, they tested for amniotic fluid when I got to L&D and it was positive. Ugh! It really frustrates me because it makes it seem like I was dishonest. I have the notes from my first birth (home birth and that's just something the midwife automatically gives out, whether you ask for it or not) and haven't got around to asking about getting the notes for my second birth (I'm a little scared to because some hospitals charge a copying fee of ~$1 a page for your records and that could get a little pricy), but I would looooooove to read those and see what the doctor and nurses wrote since my birth was so completely crazy (crazy good) compared to your standard hospital birth. With my other two they are just pretty standard charting, nothing like detailed notes, so it wasn't so interesting to read back through. If it were I would love to read it.
