Yes. We haven't had a DVR for over 13 years but man that is ONE THING I miss about cutting the cord!

I haven't had traditional cable for about 10 years now. At first, I missed it, but now, I have all I need with Netflix, Amazon Prime and occasionally purchasing movies on Google Play. I tried Apple TV, but the content wasn't that great at the time, so we sold it and I have never tried Hulu or Roku so I don't know what I am missing there.

I had DVR when I lived abroad and it just ended up being tons of stuff that I would record with the intent to watch but never did, so I don't need that feature going forward.

All these changes have changed the way I watch TV and it's for the better, I think. I used to be majorly addicted to TV and now, if I don't know what the latest shows are, it's ok.

We have Roku. Funny enough we made the switch to Internet TV because we lost all of our DVR content twice with our old cable provider.

On our Roku we have Direct TV and many networks (Bravo, AMC) will have lots of episodes of current and sometimes past seasons of shows available to view. Hulu has a ton of shows and from what I can tell all the episodes. We also subscribe to HBO Go (Sesame Street!) and Netflix. Using Amazon Prime I can watch old seasons and episodes of shows that maybe not be feee elsewhere like Suits (I’m watching season 4 now).

We’ve been doing no cable for years. We got so used to it, at one point we had to have it back because it made our internet package cheaper but we never used it.

We pay for Hulu with no commercials, plus Netflix and we buy cable shows on iTunes occasionally (like Walking Dead). I’m so spoiled by no commercials I find DVR’d shows and having to fast forward every few minutes to be annoying.

We have YouTube tv which has dvr type capabilities so I can still watch shows later. We love it and so much cheaper!

We cut it all 3 years ago and literally the royal wedding this weekend was the only thing I was like ah I wish we could DVR it. Other than that, I haven’t missed the DVR. We are actually likely going to buy a tv package again when DW is on mat leave...we miss HGTV and food network for brainless entertainment!

We cut DVR a couple of years ago due to many shows being OnDemand, or able to stream through various apps... sure once in a while I wish I had it, but we probably watch less TV because of it - that's fine with me!

@bhbee: Ha! We ended up buying one season of Paw Patrol as the little asks for it now and then. Otherwise, we're big on Dinosaur Train and Wild Kratts for now. :) Though the older one just got into Pokemon on Netflix and I have no idea what's going on there.

Ok I am feeling like we can ditch the dvr! We don’t really watch sports so that’s a big help. I have pbs passport (extra streaming) from donating to my local station and we still get our antenna stations, so at least could watch specials live if we couldn’t find them streaming.

@Mommy Finger: nick jr showed up on the roku and even though 90% is locked without cable, that 10% is all my kids want to watch!

We use Playstation Vue and it has DVR capabilities. You follow certain shows and it'll save them for you. I think they only are saved for a few weeks before you would have to watch them on demand. I don't really miss cable at all. Like @skinnycow: said, it will buffer sometimes and that's annoying. But DH is able to watch all of the sports he was watching before and we are saving $100 a month. I was bummed at first that we don't get Nick Jr but my boys are watching more PBS and Amazon kids shows that I like a lot better than Paw Patrol. :)

The only thing I miss is the local news and maybe PBS. Most important events can be streamed for free. We only pay for Netflix and Amazon Prime.

We still have cable because I still haven't found that cutting cable for us save that much money.

I have Netflix and Amazon Prime Video; so I do DVR current shows that I'm trying to keep up with. Also, the girls recently got super into The Wiggles. I stay away from YouTube so the only way they watch is the episodes I record in DVR.

I really don’t miss having cable. But with that said, it has changed the way we watch tv. We don’t watch many weekly network shows anymore without a DVR unless they’re on Hulu. Instead we’ve become more “binge” watchers. We pick a series and watch that until we finish and then move on to the next. Sometimes I do miss the variety that cable/dvr allowed us, but definitely not enough to switch back.

We temporarily cut the cord about 1.5 years ago. We did Playstation Vue which was fine but sometimes it would pause for buffering or connection would just be slow.

We ended up getting cable again about 6 months later because we watch a lot of sports and we were missing games and getting poor quality during some. AT&T gave us a good deal to get our business back so it was worth it to us!

we have youtube tv which has live sports, DVR, and on demand (it works with our smart tv & roku). it's $40/mo, which is still way cheaper than our previous cable package!

We cut the cord after the first of the year and don't miss DVR at all. We have a few smart tvs, then amazon firesticks. We stream Netflix and Prime stuff and we've also downloaded Terrarium (followed youtube tutorials) and can stream pretty much anything with that for free, although its not always immediately after it airs. We're pretty happy with it, the only thing we miss is things like the local news, and baseball games. But ehhh, not really that much.

Totally not a critical post :silly:

We finally got a smart tv with roku built in so we can stream a lot of things. Our old system was an ancient TiVo which we used to record antenna tv, mostly pbs (haven’t had cable in years). But with better streaming this seems kind of silly to pay monthly for dvr? The one time I find we use it most is taping specials and holiday shows - but maybe most of those will also stream? Just curious what others have done. Thanks!
