We shared it with family and friends about mid-way through our pregnancy but we won't publicly announce it (say to FB) until after he is born. We didn't care whether people liked or disliked our name, and if anything it gives them time to get used to it. I wouldn't recommend this if you're at all pondering changing his/her name though.
