I know they allow it (video--pictures are fine from what I've heard/read) at our hospital (where I plan on having the baby), BUT, you need to have written consent from any/everybody that will be in the room...soooo, they kind of make you work for it...

I've heard that my hospital does not allow photos of the actual delivery, though you can have photos during labor. Still, I'm sure this varies based on the nurses / midwife / OB you get... Some are probably stricter than others. I'm not interested in any birth photography though so its not a big deal for me. :)

I had to have an emergency c-section and my husband wasn't allowed in the OR while they were getting me ready. When he walked in, he was in his blue scrubs and had our camera around his neck like a tourist. For some reason, that sight made me crack up laughing.

but yea...photo yes. but i wouldnt let him take pics of my insides.

I'm sure a lot of hospitals don't allow it for malpractice reasons.

I just took a hospital tour yesterday, and they said your support people/person can take as many pictures as they want during the birth, as long as you stay north of the mom's knees! They said they don't allow pictures or video "between the legs."

They also told us that you can hand the camera over to one of the nurses, because they're always willing to get some action shots. Same with a c section, you can have a camera in the room, but no pictures of the other side of the sheet.

I don't know the rules at my hospital, but I do know my sister has a picture from her c-section as they are pretty much taking her son out (I don't think she meant to share that one, it was in a stack she had given me to look through). So I guess her hospital didn't have a problem with it. Her husband took it with a regular camera.

We wanted to set up a video camera, behind my head, during the birth and were told we couldn't. I don't know if they would have allowed still pictures. DH was busy holding my leg and being a part of the experience and I didn't want him manning a camera.

My hospital policy didn't allow it but I think they might have key us had we asked/just done it. They were pretty lax about a lot of their "rules" (like how many support people I could have, for example).

They told us we couldn't photograph the actual delivery. I know a number of birth photographers though & they've done it so I suppose if the photographer has a history with the hospital then maybe they could get allowance.

Was photography allowed during childbirth if you delivered at a hospital? I assume most hospitals allow photography during labor and after birth, but just wondering if it was allowed during the actual birth?
