I did nips at 10 weeks, got results at 11. Along with that, had a mini anatomy scan at 14 weeks which is standard practice at my office if you do nips. No NT though. I'm 35.

I'm under 35, but I did both, as I was told the strength of both results together gave me the greatest possible assurance of a (thankfully) health baby. I plan to do both a second time when I'm pregnant again.

I did the NIPT with my second, but never had the NT u/s since I don't qualify (not high risk, under 35). I wouldn't have done the NT though since the NIPT is so much more accurate.

@oliviaoblivia: @mrsjd: @delight: @Amorini: @Truth Bombs: @LAZB: @kes18: @catlady: @ShootingStar: Thanks everyone! Interesting to hear how things differ from practice to practice. I was used to a lot of ultrasounds with my LO#1, so it is weird to be "normal" at this point and only have the 20 week scan. Plus, the NIPT wasn't available to me in 2013 so NT (blood and u/s) was recommended then.

I responded in our other thread, but I am scheduled to have a meeting with a genetic counselor, then the NT scan, then the maternity21 blood draw on the same day (in that order). They did this with my last pregnancy too. I have had one previous scan (at 8 weeks) but that was just for dating since I have irregular cycles. At my last appt (10 weeks), they would have given me another ultrasound if they had not found the heartbeat with a doppler, but I got the sense that that was due to my history of missed m/c and not typical.

I think the main difference at our hospital between NIPT or not is the blood test. If you get NIPT, they don't do the normal NT scan blood work.

I did the NIPT, my OB did not offer the NT scan. My OB did an ultrasound at 10w this time, I think because my last pregnancy I had the NT scan done (first ultrasound) and found out I was 3.5 weeks farther along. So this time I am just getting the 10w and 20w one unless there are medical reasons. Last time I just had the NT scan (I was 16weeks) and 20 w ultrasound, plus one after 40w since I was overdue. The only standard ultrasound given is the anatomy scan, otherwise they just use the doppler at the other appointments (after 10w).

I did NIPT and was not offered the NT scan for the exact reason you stated (that the NIPT is more accurate anyway). I had an ultrasound at 6 weeks to confirm heartbeat, etc, and then we just did the Doppler at each appointment until my 20 week scan. It was a totally new experience for me because I had a lot of bleeding and cramping with my first and with her I had had like 5 ultrasounds prior to the 20 week scan.

@GreenThumb: I did both. As you know, I'm AMA (and like majorly AMA for HB! Haha!). The peri did genetic counseling, the Mat21 blood draw and the NT scan all at the same appointment. I had 2 scans with the RE, 1 for the first OB appt and 1 NT scan at the peri (both around 10w)....then a/s at 19w!

I did NIPT at 10 weeks and still had my NT scan. I just didn't do any of the bloodwork with the NT scan. I am in Ontario though if it makes a difference. My genetic counsellor said I should still do an ultrasound.

I did NIPT (by choice, I'm under 35), and I was not offered the NT scan. Thus, I had an ultrasound at 8 weeks and then not until the 20 week anatomy.

I just had my first OB appointment at 8w6d today. We talked about me doing the NIPT screening test MaterniT21 especially since I am over 35. But the NP told me that I then would not have the NT scan because they are redundant tests and the NIPT screening is more accurate anyway. This means no U/S until the anatomy scan! Technically because I did IVF I've already had 2 U/S, but I was surprised not to have another until 18-20 weeks.

For those who did NIPT screens, did you skip the NT scan? When was your first U/S? Thanks!
