He became very interested in the potty during a visit with his cousins at 22 months and would occasionally pee on the toilet. I planned to potty train right around 2 years, after a vacation and ordered a potty in preparation. It arrived in the middle of the afternoon during the middle of the week and he was obsessed. We started the 3 day method then and was really good by the next day. He had a few accidents here and there but as long as we reminded him, he went on the potty. He even pooped on the plane about 2 weeks later despite the fact we put him in a pull up. He still uses pull ups for naps and bedtime but very few accidents during the day and usually only if it takes too long to get to the bathroom (about 7 months since training).

I voted other...

We attempted the 3 day method and it was traumatizing to everybody. We lost a long weekend while LO getting stressed out as he kept peeing himself and I was upset because I was constantly cleaning up. He was so scared that he held and won't go and still peed everywhere and wouldn't know what to do at the end. We stopped at 1.5 days and I gave it a break.

Then I talked to my friend and we introduced underwear time - everyday I'd give him underwear time after I picked him up from school and he had just peed/pooped. So I know he would stay dry at least for a while. So this underwear time started out for an hour, and I gradually increase the time when he was able to remain dry and was able to pee/poop in the potty (we celebrate like crazy when he pee/poo in the potty, of course). It builds up his confidence and very soon we were all in underwear.

Looking back I would NOT have done 3 day at all. It is so overrated and not worth losing a long weekend over pee and poop when so many other things work too.

ETA: This all happened when LO was 2.5 years old. Now that we are trained (we are 3 years 2 months now) I almost could not remember there was a time he wouldn't use the potty lol

We did at 15 months and it worked. We also did elimination communication, so she was already using the toilet regularly at that point. She's 22 months now and tells us every time she needs to go. Its beautiful.

How does the three day method work? Might be a good idea for my toddler. How often do you put them on the potty and for how long? Like if you put them on the potty and they don't go, how long are they supposed to sit there for?

We can't get her to go potty in the toilet. She'll hold it all day if she has to :/ no treats can convince her :( she's 27 months but at this point I'll wait for her to take the lead :/

We didn't follow a "method," but I spent 3 days focusing on potty training with my LO after she was already peeing on the potty, but she wasn't doing any #2. I figured we needed to hit it hard in order to get the poop under control. It worked like a charm, and she has literally had MAYBE 2 or 3 accidents since then, and that was almost 8 months ago. She was 26 months.

Yes, and he barely had any accidents past Day 2. Except poop -- that took several more weeks for him to get over his fear. But he had turned 3 and was ready.

Yup! I blogged about it here: http://www.hellobee.com/2015/02/02/potty-trained-at-20-months/

I will say that now (she's 25 months), with baby number 2, she's regressed a tiny bit. Thankfully it's not nearly as bad as I thought it would be, but we've taken a tiny step back. Still, I'm so thankful we did it before the baby arrived!

i think it was a good start for us -- still needed a good 3 more weeks before I could safely say he was potty trained. there was a week of regression, but we just pushed through it and he improved drastically the week after.

Yep! We did a loose 3 day method. We went bottomless around the house but we also did outings (1-2 hours each) when we needed to instead being at home the entire time. DS was 27 months and change when we did it a few wknds ago. He had a few accidents on day one and two w pee. By day three he was telling us every time he needed to go. He's had one or two accidents since then and it's been when he's caught up playing hard etc. #2 took a cpl wk's longer to get down. As in he was holding it for two days (had a couple accidents in underwear too), but he's finally gotten comfortable with it and has gone a lot over the wknd. He prefers the big potty for poops and does either or big potty and his potty for pee.

Moreso than the three day method I think the key for us was giving it time and not rushing it. DS has been telling us when he pooped or was about to poop in his diaper since several months prior and then soon moved to telling us about pees too. He also went pee/Poo a handful of times in th potty that we had out in the bathroom for months and we started talking about using the potty instead of diapers for weeks/months before we finally (stopped being lazy) and trained him!

yes and no. She was already sporadically peeing and pooping here and there so she just needed a push from us. The 3 day method was that big push where we went diaper and underwear free and potty every 30 minutes then 60 minutes then 1.5-2hrs. Then just trusting her to tell us.. It was about a week before we were accident free for daytime.

She was 27m
