I can't imagine trying to get an epidural at 8 or 9 cm. </p> <p>2) Because it would be a VBAC I'd be stuck with continuous monitoring which was a huge reason I got the epidural in the first place. Being strapped to a bed was pure torture with back labor. </p> <p>3) My labor went way faster after the epidural than before it. (And not any of this "I was pretty sure I was having contractions," stuff. I was on.the.floor in the gross hospital hallways with every single one). My doctor came in and told me she was so glad I'd gotten the epidural (she didn't want to pressure me in the decision) because it was clear my body was fighting the contractions. I immediately dilated another 5 inches (I had been stuck at 2). For #1, I had no idea how long labor was going to be and felt like I couldn't breathe because I was getting no rest between contractions. I was a 5 when I got to the hospital so I got the epidural.
