DS1 was 2 years old. DS2 is 23 months and he STTN almost everynight now. We cosleep though, which makes it easier for me to deal with the wake ups. We never sleep trained because I dont like the idea, especially CIO, and I'm lazy at night.....its always been so much easier to just cosleep and nurse on demand.

LO is 10 months and we had some glorious nights back before teething hit where he would sleep from about 7:00-5:30 but that's all a distant memory. We haven't done any sleep training and when he wakes up he either gets nursed or rocked back to sleep. Most nights I just bring him into our bed when he wakes up. We may need to start thinking of techniques to help him go to sleep on his own pretty soon but I feel like with teething/being sick/learning huge new skills he's got a lot going on and I love the snuggles. Every now and then he will sleep through the night but when he wakes up it is only once and we're ok with that.

My babe is 6 1/2 months and has never sttn. Right now he goes to bed around 6:30-7pm, I dream feed him sometime between 10-11, he wakes around 4am for a quick feed then around 6:30am for the day. For me, it is much less time/effort to just nurse him for the 4am feed than to give him a soother and rock him to sleep. I think he's legitimately hungry at 4am so I'm OK with it. I can't imagine someone telling me that I "shouldn't be hungry"... so I don't think I should do that for him...

We didn't sleep train, and it took almost a year to reach zero wake ups. Sleep got progressively better with the exception of rough patches at 5 and 10 months. Otherwise he may have a night every week or two where he needs me to sleep with him to get him to stay down, but compared to the early days, it is totally doable. We used No Cry Sleep Solution, but it takes a very big commitment to really work.

Never sleep trained and LO is 11 months and has STTN maybe 10 times in her life. Her wake ups are easy and manageable though so I never really felt the need. If she gets to 12 months still nursing overnight, I might night wean. We'll see. But that's only one night wake up in a 12 hour span.

LO is 9.5 months and I've never sleep-trained because I don't have the hear to CIO, she's an escalator when it comes to crying. And like some pp said, it's easier to rock or nurse her back to sleep and she's back down within a few minutes in the MOTN.
She started STTN around 3.5-4.5 months if I recall, but then had a lot of wake-ups once she started standing/crawling and teething. We're back down to 1 wake-up/feeding most nights, but I feel like she still needs it because she doesn't nurse very long in the daytime (too active and distracted). I figure the wake-ups won't last forever and she's only a baby for so long. She'll end up loving to sleep eventually, right?

Our lo actually sttn for a couple of months b/t 1.5-3.5 months. But for the past 3 months, things are a little ridiculous in the night waking department. To answer your question, I haven't sleep trained because neither my husband or I want to, I don't want to affect my milk supply, and I'm curious how it will play out on his timeline. We co-sleep so wakings aren't too bad, often he just wants to nurse, does so, and quietly goes back to sleep.

Miss A is fourteen months and we haven't done any form of sleep training. She has STTN on occasion but on the whole is a very inconsistent sleeper who sometimes wakes at midnight and other nights will sleep till 5am.

I nurse to sleep for 95% of her sleep but she can put herself to sleep when she wants to and we bedshare after she wakes in the night.

On the very few occasions I have attempted to leave her in the cot to cry she got incredibly wound up and we both felt shitty which then made going to sleep so much more difficult.

I never sleep trained LO and she STTN at 5 months (she is 11 months right now). I'm not against sleep training at all, but she is not a candidate for CIO (we let her cio a few times and it only escalated her crying to the point where she was throwing up, a huge mess, wide awake, inconsolable, and would take an extra hour to put her down instead of just picked her up when she cried. She has also never cried herself to sleep, ever, and we have let her cry for up to 2.5 hours on 3 different occasions. I call her a "tension increaser"). The other methods take too long and require too much consistency (I'm lazy) so I just figured I'd let her be and she'll figure it out. She does cry sometimes during the night (not every night), but she won't wake up, and I just pat her a few times, or hold her for a few minutes and put her down again, and she'd stop. She has had really rough patches, but we've always just rode it out.

We sleep trained at 11 months and had about one year of really decent night sleep. I ahould mention that he was ready and we gave him a lovey and there was virtually no crying.

Then, a lot of stuff changed at once and we have had a year of poor sleep.

I guess what I a,m saying is, just look at small amounts of time and set small goals. You will have regressions and set backs, if you think you only have to do it once, you might be setting yourself up for failure!

F is 15 months and has never slept through like you describe it. We didn't sleep train because
1) I wasn't comfortable with CIO when he was younger & I was worried we'd have to re-train after illness, during teething, etc
2) It has been easier (i.e more sleep for us all) to nurse/co-sleep & I do like the cuddles
3) I've been able to feel okay with knowing he'll sleep when he's ready & keep my thoughts rooted in the long term picture.

It's a hard choice to make. Everyone told me "You'll get to a point where you want to CIO", but I haven't yet. If you have, I think your family will be fine with it. If you're not ready to take that leap, it's okay not to.

I'm sorry you're not getting enough sleep. It's really really hard to function without it

How does less than 3 months have the most votes?! Gah! LO is 4 1/2 months and still wakes up 2-3 times and has never slept all the way through (9 hours straight is her record). We will definitely sleep train eventually (she goes to sleep for the night on her own...DH puts her in the crib awake). It's just the MOTN wakeups we need to work on, but I am not ready to wean her yet as she legitimately seems hungry. My SIL never let my niece cry or even fuss, and she still has wakeups at 2 years old. That will not be us--I would lose my mind!!

I did hardcore CIO sleep training for two weeks at 6 months and it still didn't work for DS. DD typically wakes up at 4:30 to eat then back to sleep until 6:30, DS wakes anywhere between 2:30-3:30 to eat, then again around 5:30. I let him cry for hours and he would never put himself back to sleep so I gave up. I hope he STTN eventually! Mine are almost 7 months...

We sleep trained to get him to go to sleep in his own. He STTN once a couple months ago. He was down to one wake up between 3-4am but then got a cold and we had a week of super horrible sleep now he is at 2 night wakings. Although last night his first waking was an hour later than normal so I'm hoping this is a new trend.

He just turned 9 months. I'm really hoping for better sleep by the time I return to work in March.

@scg00387: No, any kind of sleep training. I'm just wondering if I did nothing different at all how long it could be before she starts sleeping through. I can handle another 3 months..... but not 6 months.....! If I need to sleep train, I will have to start looking at my options.

Our LO started STTN consistently (90%+ nights) when we started cosleeping, so she was less than 12 weeks. Although, that might count as her "sleep training" us......
