Hmmm.. You ladies all make such valid points! Our kitchen trash can is not that much closer than the outside trash can, and we seriously don't make that much trash so it only goes out maybe 1-2xs a week. I'm hoping we get the Ubbi as a gift or else we will try to hold off from buying one unless we feel we really need it.

I'm with @Joeysmama - we put pee diapers in a lidded garbage can (that fits grocery sized bags) and throw the poop ones in the kitchen garbage (which is taken out at least every other day) or throw them into the garage and then in then in the trash when we leave the house (we have an attached garage, and can do this b/c it's winter and they basically freeze and don't smell anymore!). I tie the poop diapers in a bag - either an extra grocery bag or newspaper bag, I dont find it to be a hassle.

We have the Arm & Hammer diaper pail and I was a bit skeptical because the diaper genies definitely do not contain the smell. They knock you out once you open the lid and you can also smell them in the room. LO is six months old and we've had super luck with this and trust me, her poops are naaaasty now that she is on purees. I have never once smelled anything, even when I open the top to put one in. I use it all the time and love it.

We don't have a diaper pail. Disposables go straight into the trash, poop and all. All of our trash cans are emptied every other day at least. I only put them in a separate baggie if they're especially stinky. But we don't have a ton since we CD during the day.

We have the same one as @Mrs. Yoyo and it is wonderful. We used to put pee diapers in the regular garbage and poo diapers in the pail but the pee ones still ended up smelling! I would suggest getting one!

We are in a tiny one story house and use one. I couldn't imagine tying the diapers in a plastic bag because 1. that's a lot of unnecessary waste you're creating with all of those little plastic bags and 2. My LO is sooooo squirmy, I don't have time to sit there and tie a plastic bag! The least amount of steps the better.

I have a lidded bin that all the used diapers go in to and DH empties it every other day. I find that breastmilk poop doesn't really give off much of a smell so our system works for us. I imagine that when we start solids we'll have to put the poopy diapers out straight away.

We have one and we don't use it. Honestly, we very rarely change a diaper in his room where the pail is. We moved the pale at one point to our room, but we don't use it either. I find it easier to just toss them in the regular garbage pail, since we take the trash out everyday. Plus lo is ebf, so he poops less often, and they aren't as smelly as formula fed babies. Diapers with urine don't really smell.

I have an Ubbi & love it so far. We cloth diaper & it contains the smells really well. I had the same issues as @me0wmeeh: with the cloth bag, but we ran it thru the drier a few times & the problem part of the liner came off.

@Crumbs: This is what I've read too. Tie each diaper in a plastic bag before putting it in the diaper pail! Sounds like a lot of double work!

@me0wmeeh: Thanks for the Ubbi review! I did like that it uses normal trash bags and the other reviews said it contains the stench really well! Hoping it gets bought from our registry!
@JoeysMama: @Mrs. Yoyo: Thanks for 2 votes for the Munchkin! I 'll look into that one too!
@HLK208: @lemondrop: I'm HOPING we can follow through with this mentality! I just saw my cousin and BFF just give up and start keeping them in the house...

Never got one, never needed one.

We have a similar set up as you, poopy diapers go in the trash just outside the kitchen door. Pee diapers go there if I'm heading that direction, or I have a wet bag if I'm feeling lazy. Never been an issue for us, and I never notice a smell from the wet bag.

Don't get one! We used ours for the first week and that was it. It smells terrible and we only live in one story of our house too so we just take them outside to the garbage. I hated having them sit in a nasty pail.

We live in a two-story home and LO's bedroom is on the second floor, so it would be a pain in the butt for us to walk the diaper out each time. We have the Diaper Genie, and honestly, I don't think it was too useful until we started solids and her poops started getting really stinky. I do think it holds in the smell pretty well - her room never smells.

I am lazy and live in a two-story house, so a diaper pail was a must. We actually got two of them. I am SO glad I have it now that we are into the toddler months and the diapers smell so much more foul.

We have the Munchkin Arm & Hammer one, and I think it does a great job of containing the smell.

We have 2 Ubbi, one for disposable diapers and one for cloth wipes (LO have extremely sensitive skin so we wash his bottom and dry with a microfiber cloth). I like that we can use any kitchen bags and do not have to buy refills. The initial investment is more, but it's cheaper in the long run. Ubbi also have a cloth bag however we had some issues with it. After each wash (without it going into the dryer, air dry), the liner would stick to itself. We contacted Ubbi and they claimed it was a bad batch and sent us another. The replacement did the exact same thing. We still use it, the hub pretty much wiped all the adhesive (Goo Gone) from the inside liner and that pretty much did the trick. I can't imagine living without them since we do most diaper changes upstairs.

I also live on one floor and LO's room is right next to the kitchen. I put a small garbage can with lid in his room to dispose pee diapers and I dispose dirty ones in plastic bags in the regular kitchen garbage (since it goes out daily/every other day). It isn't too bad of a system. I definitely think I would be too lazy to take them to the outside garbage each time! There are lots of diaper changes!
I received a Munchkin Arm & Hammer diaper pail for Christmas and do enjoy the convenience of it, however I already went through the refill bags and can see that I may get annoyed with always having to buy them. I can say that the pail does contain the smell really well because of the baking soda inserts but those also have to be replaced regularly. I still don't think it is a necessity but it can't hurt to leave it on your registry!

We still don't have a diaper pail at almost ten months! Our kitchen is on the same floor as the bedrooms and we just toss them in the kitchen garbage which goes out every second day at the very least. Usually we take it out daily. Our kitchen garbage keeps kitchen smells at bay along with diapers. I can't imagine how nasty a pail full of dirty diapers must be.... yeck!

I didn't think I'd need one either. I've read about how inconvenient they are and how it's much easier to just toss the diapers in a regular bin. Another tip I've read about is to wrap them up in a plastic bag before throwing them.

But I ended up getting 2! One was free and the other really cheap through a promo. The free one we never use and I pretty much wasted my money on buying refills because it's not a convenient design. But the one we do use - we can't live without! The plastic bag trick is practical in theory but I can not imagine doing that with EVERY single diaper change. It's just one more step too many in a never ending routine.

DH used to say how they were a waste of money and how he'd just toss them out each time or 3x a day. Ummm, yeh ... I'm so glad I didn't listen to him because we're like zombies half the time and there's no way that would have ever happened. He especially LOVES the diaper bin!

The one we <3: Korbell
The one we hate: Angelcare

We live in a single-story house with the garbage cans just outside the family room sliding door. Since it seems really convenient, we think we won't really want to use a diaper pail/diaper genie. But I have a friend and a cousin who both said the same things and then they ended up getting a Diaper Genie or just throwing the diapers away in the trash can. I know from first-hand being there that the Diaper Genie did NOT contain the smells! I'm looking at the Ubbi Steel Diaper Pail (based on the reviews & aesthetics) and it is on our registry. But not sure if it's worth it to get it if no one gifts it and we'd have to pay for it ourselves?

So anyone out there like us and said "we'll just take out the dirty diaper to the trash can (outside) every time?" and NOT follow through? Did you end up caving and getting a diaper pail of some sort? Is the diaper pail really worth it?
