The only thing that worried me was when we gave him an apple wedge and he got off a large chunk. He gagged pretty bad and it did scare me. Now we cut an apple in half and give him a whole half. He's not able to bite off big chunks that way.

Things that were super thick, like sweet potatoes. Both of my kids gagged on them because of their thick consistency. But they didn't choke on them or anything.

Raw apples were the worst for DS. I found softer fruit like pears, peaches, plums were much easier for him.

Scrambled eggs were the worst. He'd chew and chew (or gum and gum), gag, and eventually spit it up- Yuck!

@regberadaisy: That's what we've found too! But then a lot ends up on the floor, it kills me when I give her a big hunk of expensive organic avocado and it slips through her fingers onto the floor after 2 bites, lol.

Thanks guys. So far she's amazed me with how well she picks it up/nibbles/chews, but she's only had very soft stuff.

things that were really chewy like bacon.

but charlie was a gagger/throw upper well past one for almost any texture. he outgrew it though!

When he started putting pieces into his own mouth (versus us putting pieces in his mouth) he would sometimes stuff too much in there and gag. We try to give anything that is squishable, and in a flattened shape versus a round shape, as that seems easier for him.

LO was really good about knowing her own personal limits. She would pull food back out if it was too big for her so we never had any gagging issues. I found she did better when we gave her normal sized pieces versus tiny pieces. So your LO might surprise you! But I also realize this is not the norm with babies.

We started doing purees with A but since she refuses to let us,feed her and will only eat from a spoon in her own hand, I thought BLW would really suit her! I was way too scared at first but she blew me away by how well she did with a banana, so I tried avacado chunks, broccoli florets and then the 2 ingredient pancakes and she loves them! So I'm going to try and be brave and embrace it a bit more.

I want to avoid potentially troublesome food though so I wondered, are there any foods you've offered while BLW that LO struggled with, or even choked on? Thank you
