@cocobee: you must be a fast cook ! I take a looong time in the kitchen, so I know it ain't gonna happen for me . Plus we have hardly any counter space so that adds to the frustration. I look forward to when I can actually start cooking again without feeling like I'm in a race for time (or will that never happen ?!?)

@podomama: I'm in the same boat. LO is 3 mos but I make a point to cook every night. I can usually get 10 minutes out of the swing while I do prep, or I start prepping while he takes his afternoon nap. He doesn't like being baby-worn either, so I will hold him in one arm and do the rest of the cooking with my other hand. We make it work :) It is harder and takes a lot longer but I like eating homemade and the alternative is too expensive and unhealthy.

I love to cook and can't imagine getting through a week without it; but, we also love take-out and going out to eat, and do that at least once or twice a week (usually on weekends).

I don't know how mothers have the time to cook with a little baby.... my LO did not take to body-wearing, so I was always holding him or I had to be right next to him at all times or he would cry. Now that he is over 1 yr old, most nights he won't go to sleep until past 9pm ! In the beginning we did take-out, but it got very expensive, so now my DH cooks or we get some semi-ready to eat meals from Costco.

Sometimes we'll do takeout, and we usually get enough food that we have leftovers for 1-2 more nights. Other times I pick up some prepared food, or we snack on whatever we have on hand (eggs, nuts, small leftovers)

My DH travels during the week, so I don't have to cook Mon-Wed. I usually will just make something super easy like soup, sandwich, salad or a quesdilla, if I am not meeting friends for dinner. If we don't feel like cooking on the weekend, we just go out to dinner. We hardly ever just order food for delivery.

We cook at least 3 or more times a week, and the rest of the time are leftovers. Thursdays are date night, and we often do lunch and/or breakfast out at least once on the weekends.

But... We were remodeling our kitchen earlier this year, so we had to figure out this problem. We kept a toaster oven and microwave to use, but it wasn't cutting it. There is a great local food grocery store in our area (Eat Local in Seattle) that mainly carries ready to heat meals. We found that the meals were hit and miss, but they did keep us in good, healthy food for several weeks.

I don't cook often, we usually have cereal or yogurt for breakfast, fresh fruit, veggies or cheese for a snack, lean cuisines or toasted bagels or sandwiches for lunch and dinner is usually some sort of take out or we go out to eat...but it's not unhealthy food, I often get salads when we're out.
For us, cooking is more expensive than eating out! A trip to the grocery store for all the ingredients we need for dinner is $40-70 and eating out is $20-50. Besides we're terrible at cooking so it feels like we're lighting money on fire when our meals don't turn out haha.

If I don't cook a lot of times we will try and find something around the house, mac and cheese, hot dogs, salad....and if not, then normally take-out....mcdonalds, DQ, qdoba, noodles

"Not cooking" at our house means making spaghetti and defrosting sauce that I previous made from scratch. Or heating up one of the dozens of meals in our freezer that I previously made. When Mr. S is away I'll have cereal for dinner sometimes, but usually I'll stop and pick up some shrimp or a crabcake to have on a salad. We probably have take-out twice a year!

@mrs. bird: I lOVE doing the rotisserie chicken meal!! dinner in a minute!!

I am NOT a big cook, because during the week I have less than 30 mins to get dinner on the table and on the weekends I like to go out. But to save money, I try to do whole wheat pasta with frozen turkey meatballs once a week (lunch for all of us the next day too) and sometimes shake n bake pork chops. We do frozen chicken nuggets or fishsticks and frozen veggies or salad a lot. Once a week we get the $7.99 large Domino's pizza special (Wagon Jr.'s lunch the next day as well). About once a week we'll do something like Chinese (Wagon Sr. works right next to Chinatown) or takeout from our local sub shop.

If it were up to Wagon Sr. we'd eat cereal, yogurt, soup, and ramen every day. I need real food.

In the past I'd also do cold cut sandwiches but those are a no-no while pregnant! Boo.

last night i didn't feel like cooking- so i stopped at the grocery store and picked up a chicken, one of the bagged salad mixes & threw one of those steam in the bag frozen veggie pouches in the microwave when i got home, dinner on the table three minutes later =D

i also keep blake's frozen shepherds pies, trader joe's frozen turkey meatballs, and other super easy things in the freezer for times when i don't feel like/have time to cook a whole meal. we're also guilty of ordering delivery more often than we should or grabbing boston market on the way home

If I do cook, I'll make a giant casserole that's like 4 night of food for us, so we just eat that. But some frozen dinners aren't too bad, like Safeway's Eating Right brand, and Marie Callendar's is alright. I try to limit my sodium intake for other meals if we're eating frozen, since they do have a lot more sodium than regular cooking. Not the most healthy, but it's so easy just to take something out of the freezer and 45 mins later dinner is done (we only ever cook frozen meals in the oven, makes them taste a whole lot better than the microwave).

I go through many periods of not cooking because of my migraines. I just can't do it, as much as I'd like to. I get so sick of take out! We eat:

Crispers, Panera, Mama Fu's, lots of local restaurants like a Greek place, Falafel, Chicken, Cuban, Deli, Pizza, Thai, etc. Yes it's not as healthy or cheap as cooking, but sometimes you don't have a choice.

What do you do? Order takeout? Where I live all there is is junk food for take out, chinese, applebess, buffalo wings, subway and some fast food chains. Any good stuff is far away and expensive.
