When we bought our house, one came with it so we use it quite a bit now, but it's definitely not a necessity.</p> <p>@evansjamie: it's actually super easy to make stovetop popcorn! Use a tall pan with a lid and put a glug of oil and a dash of salt in the bottom. Put just a couple kernels of popcorn in the pot and turn the heat to medium. Wait until one of the kernels pops and then add 1/2 cup more kernels. Put the lid on and start shaking the pan around close to the stove burner, the kernels will start popping. When the popping almost stops, set the pan aside (but leave the lid on for a minute more!) and turn off the stove. A couple more kernels will probably pop. It's been a month or so since ours broke, and occasionally we miss the convenience, but it truly isn't an issue. Dh even admitted that it wasn't as bad as he anticipated. </p> <p>Our families think we've completely lost our minds and have no idea how we can get by. they live by their micro though, so it would be a bigger adjustment for them than it was us.</p> <p>Thats weird of yoyr ILs. People do think it's weird and always ask me how I reheat food or eat popcorn. We don't miss it at all. When we were designing our kitchen we didn't want a microwave sitting on our counters. We're not fans of over the range microwaves and we have a range hood. So we decided to eliminate it from our kitchen. We honestly don't miss it one bit!</p> <p>We've had people ask how we live without one. And yesterday the ILs brought over their old microwave and set it on top of our mini fridge. ?? I thought maybe they were asking DH to dispose of it at his work's dumpster. He thinks it was meant as a joke and probably not so subtle hint.</p> <p>I'm not sure if I should find it funny or be annoyed? LOL </p>
