i have a crap room, it's full of crap :D and we have a carport that i put a shelf thing in in front of where i park my car- it holds most of our camping gear & car stuff. we also utilize our car trunks to hold stuff, all mr. bird's gym stuff is in his trunk & my trunk appears to be that of a hoarder, but it's stuff i didn't want out in the cold/snow this winter. we store our out of season clothing in our luggage and keep it under our bed, we have a bed frame that is meant to elevate the bed so there's space under for storage.

@MamaCate: at our last place we had an extra bedroom and man did I take that for granted! Now we're in a two bedroom and every inch of space is used and then some. I do like our apartment - but I think the garage thing/storage is a common issue for apartment dwellers. And you're right - it's not so much clutter that needs to be stored as bulky things - and since they're things we use a lot and mostly year round - renting a storage unit isn't practical.

We store a lot of stuff in the guest room but it sucks not to have a garage. We are considering a move soon (we are currently in a condo) and decided that a garage is a must!

The lack of storage does help with not letting clutter build up but it is a problem for stuff like trikes and bikes that are not clutter, just bulky.

@birdofafeather: good to know... that urges me to bring them inside- whatever way we can make it work! Mine is pretty new, but DH's is two years old - so his isn't damaged yet but it was a really expensive bike (it's basically his car) so it should be taken care of.

We're actually getting a storage unit for this very reason. We have a small shed and attic storage but it's not enough. Our bikes are trashed from living by the water and having them outside. They're rusty but work.

What does storage look like for you?

During the winter, we store J's tricycle in his closet. Thankfully his closet is *slightly* bigger than a normal closet, so it has his old carseat, tricycle, two bins of old clothes, books, etc...

But for DH and my storage - it's tougher! We both have bikes that we've thus far kept on the balcony - but the balcony is partly open (covered, but one side is open) and I cannot help but think we're not taking proper care of our bikes by letting them get exposed to rain and snow. I'd really like to try a wall mount but DH insists our apartment is too small. I can think of at least one wall we could make it work - but it would make the entry to the bathroom super tight.. As for other storage - we have a lot of boxes in our room. It feels pretty cluttered.

Anyway -how do you handle storage in an apt without garage?
