@scg00387: <3 Sounds like a fun dinner!

We struggle when Mr. T isn't around for bedtime. Planting and spring work has been d-r-a-g-g-i-n-g this year, and he's been gone several nights this week. The girls' bedtimes overlap somewhat and Lorelei is a bit of a wildcard when it comes to when she will actually fall asleep, and then Ellie is a dawdler, so I definitely finish up later than we do on nights when we can split up. I like your plan. Sometimes I slack when Mr. T isn't home and it feels like I am getting away with something big. Ha ha.

I think things run a little smoother because DD1 regains a whole bunch more energy as soon as DH walks through the door and that means more tantrums, testing boundaries, etc. It also means a bigger mess.

@catlady: i would like to marry your husband.

my husband switched jobs earlier this year so where he used to be able to come home and help with evening stuff, now he is almost never there. so i guess i've gotten used to it. i probably rush around more than is necessary, but i want to get everything in order so i can relax with my glass of wine after LO goes to bed and not worry about more chores.

@catlady: that is so sweet!

I'm kind of terrible in that I suck at cleaning up anyway, so whether he is there or not doesn't make a big difference. He's better at decluttering than me. Dinners are definitely simpler.

When DH goes out of town, he usually feels bad and pre-cooks dinners for me to heat up so that I don't have to worry about cooking. So it's usually not so bad maintaining everything else. I am lucky!

I like when DH is out in the evening sometimes because then I don't have to worry about making a real dinner. I usually clean a little bit after LO goes to sleep then eat leftovers or something easy (like wine and crackers and cheese!) and then relax for a long while!

@avivoca: Yes, I find that too!! I know it sounds awful but I cleaned every scrap of DH's clutter away as soon as he left for work this morning!! His spare glasses, his shoes, his work keys, his laundry, his book by the side of the bed - everything put away!! Ahh - bliss!

Umm I don't even have a baby and when dh is out of town I stop cooking and pretty much let stuff slide until the day before he comes back. I say you should happily take your hour!

I'm solo parenting right now because DH is working away!! I actually got my household jobs done before bathtime, while LO played, so I could pour a glass of wine and relax straight away! The joke's on me though because DD has been fighting sleep for an hour now.... I really, really want my dinner :crying:

when you do have to, do you maintain the same level of order?? DH is normally home at 5 and does bath time, etc. so I have at least an hour to myself, often more if I need/want it, once he's home.

He's out of town for 3 days and LO has been great so far (knock on wood) but I am completely ignoring the gigantic clutter mess and relaxing at nap and night time! I don't know what it is about that one hour and being alone all night - but it makes me feel indulgent :P
