I sleep on my side, and I usually just make sure it's all on one side (the opposite side) before I lay my head down on the pillow. If I rollover and I pull it all to the other side. Seems to work!

@LindsayInNYC: I hear you! I've always wished my hair was thinner and straighter so it would be easier to manage (if I don't do SOMETHING with it, I have a major fro), whereas my best friend who has thin/straight hair can just blow dry hers in 2 seconds and it looks perfect. It takes me forever to blow dry my hair, and three times as long to style it because there's so much of it! So I guess there are positives and negatives to every hair type!

@Adira - I'm jealous! I wish my hair were thicker or curlier or something. Isn't that how it always works though?!

I really like Salon Graffix Dry Shampoo. It's kind of pricey for a drugstore product (I think $8) but it's fragrance free and doesn't leave a powdery residue.

I don't really have advice. I have thick wavey hair, so on the days I don't shower, I straighten my hair (since it's been flattened from sleeping on it anyway). But my hair is thick and this works perfectly for me. It sounds like it wouldn't work for you. :(

I shower every day regardless of whether I wash my hair or not. So, if I'm not washing, I still get it wet. I'm an all over the place sleeper. My hair is not presentable first thing in the morning no matter what LOL

I use dry shampoo and a satin ponytail holder to keep it smooth and off my face when I sleep. (If I use an elastic it makes a funky crease that I'd have to flatiron).

@LindsayInNYC: IMO, the damage is already done in the morning. So, if you wait until then, the results you get are just what you can fix versus what you can prevent. At night, before your hair gets matted down or has a chance to get oilier, the shampoo helps it wear better overnight (thus less damage in the a.m.) and you get a better result overall.

I hope that makes sense (it sort of does in my head, i.e., preventative vs. reactive).

ETA: It works them same in the p.m. versus a.m. . . . but you are not so behind the eight ball (so to speak) in the a.m. Also, I use Oscar Blondi, but I have not tried any other brands.

The curling iron is my friend on second-day hair. That, and a good boar-bristle brush.

I'm like you, I need to wash my hair to style it because it's thin. Since I have short hair now, the only fix for bedhead is a hat!

@blackbird @MsLipGloss - I've heard about using dry shampoo before bed. Does it work differently that way? (versus using it in the morning)

Silk pillow cases reduce the friction on your hair (which helps it not look so beat up and tired in the a.m.), and, if I do not plan to wash my hair in the morning, I put dry shampoo in *at night* to absorb oil overnight (as opposed to trying to do it all in the morning). I get a much better result that way!

i use ponytails pretty often, or hair clips to pin it up kind of nice. Dry shampoo is a good option for fluffing--i spray it in the night before. Sometimes a cute headband.

I have thin hair and if I don't wash it, then it has to be in a ponytail to look presentable. Sometimes I can't even manage that though. I wake up with bedhead where certain parts of my hair are just all smooshed funny and won't lay flat. Does this happen to anyone else? How can you prevent or fix it?!

ETA: Since there are lots of dry shampoo recommendations, what kinds/brands do you recommend? My salon has an awesome (but pricey) one so I'd like to find a more reasonably priced alternative.
