DS1 is behind the driver seat, and DS2 is behind the passenger. DS1 used to be in the middle until DS2 arrived. I wanted to keep him in the middle, but our sedan isn't big enough to accommodate both next to each other.

@loveisstrange: Good to know!!

DS is currently RF in the center, and when we put him in the convertible, he'll be in the center as well.

The middle is the safest and you should have the least protected child in the middle. Meaning if you have another LO, your DS should stay in the middle in his convertible seat and the baby would go on the outside in its bucket. (I think thats how it works.)

However, C is behind the passenger seat. It's just way easier that way.

I've always heard that middle is the safest and you should put the less protected car seat in the middle. So if you have an infant car seat and a convertible, the convertible should go in the middle.

We both drive sedans and DD is RF in the middle.

ETA: Obviously it depends on whether you're doing a LATCH or seatbelt install and, if you're doing LATCH, whether or not your car allows LATCH borrowing.

DS's car seat is behind the passenger's seat in our Nissan Versa. We don't have LATCH in the center and my husband is too tall to have it in the center anyways. It doesn't fit behind the driver seat while my husband drives either.

Often in your manual it offers some guidance for the safest spot. Rear facing in my fusion I put it on the passenger side, with one forward and one rear facing I would put the forward facing seat behind the driver and rear behind the passenger. It is a pain to install in my middle seat.

I know for RF the center is safest to avoid side impact. But we have M behind the passenger seat in both cars because we simply could not get the seat level in the middle and I would rather have a compeltely proper installation. I would think that if the child is forward facing you would not want them in the middle so there is something to stop them from being projected through the windshield in a bad accident.

We have a large sedan and have DD (16 mo, 23 pounds) RF behind the passenger seat. We can't put her in the middle because our car only has LATCH on the out-facing seats and we did not put her behind the driver because we live in a city and primary park on the street when out and about - so getting her in and out of the car is much safer on the curb side. When we have #2 DD will be FF, so we will likely move her to the middle seat or behind the driver's seat and put the infant seat behind the passenger seat.

It's behind the passenger seat. I had multiple police officers and firemen tell me that is the best place for it if we can't make it work in the middle (we can't - tall husband). It's in that place in both my Mazda 3 and his Camry.

We have DS RF in the center. I've read side positions are less safe because side impacts tend to be deadly.

I've read it's safest behind the driver. I have Liam behind the passenger, though, because of the way our driveway is located in relation to the house. It's just way easier to get him in and out on the passenger side. We also still have him RF at 26 months.

If we ever have another, we will put the baby behind the passenger seat and Liam behind the driver's seat. I think the center is the least safe option because there's nothing blocking them from going all the way forward to the dash/windshield in a serious accident if they happened to come out of the car seat straps.

ETA: Oops, we have an SUV, not a sedan. So maybe my comments don't matter!

My DD is the same age as A, and she's RF in a foonf in the center of the back seat. I'm expecting our second in November, and we're planning to reuse DD's keyfit behind the driver's seat (which is where it always was for DD too). We're in a '07 Chrysler Sebring.

We have one LO and in my tiny pontiac 4 door g6, he's been in it RF behind the passenger side.

We just switched the carseat in DH's car to FF and moved it to the center position.

We'll be switching mine to FF as well and wondered where is the safest in a sedan? Keeping in mind that we are going to be TTC soon and that I'm already having a heck of a time strapping in my 33 in/27.5 lbs baby boy in the RF carseat as it is!
