I'd say a week of consistent low ounces. But it's very hard to tell if you're also nursing. If he's nursing more, you'll get less in the short term, but eventually your supply will make up for it.

I freaked out that my supply was tanking this week, but it came back up.

A couple of things.
-I find the longer I am breastfeeding, the longer I can go without feeling engorged. I have a 10 month old now and only get engorged when she sleeps through the night and I go 11 hours without pumping/feeding.
-If I feed her throughout the night, I will pump less in the morning.
-My supply goes up and down. It depends on the day how much I pump but I can usually pump just enough for her for the day. I love the days when she sleeps through the night b/c it means I get to store some milk for later! I also use that milk when I have down days and don't pump as much.

I used to pump 3x/day and get 15oz. Now I pump 2x/day and get 12oz (average). I've never been one of those people that can pump what I make in two sessions in one session if I wait. The good news is, my lo is only getting 12oz/day in bottles so it works out.

I just rambled a bunch, I know, I hope it helps some. :)

I would love to know the answer to this - I know I'm going to want to drop a pump session one day, but my supply is pretty low, so I'd like to know when I'm willing to lose milk if it does decrease

This is my tenth week back at work. I'm only working half days right now. I'm gone 7 am - 1 pm. LO usually gets 2, 4 oz bottles sometimes only 1 and sometimes a small third one.

anyways, I was pumping at 6:30 am and again at 10 am. Well, LO has been getting up more and more at night so 3 weeks ago, I dropped the 6:30 am pump b/c I wasn't as engorged feeling anymore. Plus, DH was on spring break that week, and I got lazy and was sleeping in a little more.

The last 2 weeks, I've been pumping 10-14 ounces, usually 12 during my 10 am pump. However, this week, I've been consistently getting 8 ounces and today I only got 6. DS's sleep has been horrible this week. He's been sleeping in our bed a lot, so maybe nursing more. Maybe that's why I'm pumping less? Or has dropping that pumping session finally caught up to me?

How long does it take to know if dropping a pump session, has negatively affected your supply?

oh and when I used to pump twice, I would still get 12-14 ounces total. So only pumping once was getting me the same amount which is why I kept up with the one pump session.
