I don't EP but had lots of pain when I started pumping after returning to work, I had to go to a small flange size.

about 2 weeks; i used olive oil before and after every pump. in the beginning, I did put on ice packs after pumping when it was very sore/tender for about 10-15 minutes, got some relief from that. i also was militant about checking my breasts all the time, making sure i got out any hard lumps while pumping, to ensure it didn't get worse/bigger. in the beginning, when i was trying to up my supply, I took fenugreek 3 times a day, and used a heating pad 10 minutes before pumping to get the milk pumping/flowing. not easy EPing, but it was a nice alternative when BFing didn't work. oh and i took lecithin regularly, which supposedly helps to prevent lumps.

I decide to EP b/c my LO had a poor latch. I hated pumping. All the nipple cream and cold nipple pads couldn't relieve my discomfort and pain to the point of giving it up. Then I came upon a website that said the many women have large nipples and the flange that comes with the breastpump are medium size. So I bought a large size flange and it made all the difference in the world!

About two weeks. I thought olive oil really helped... Way Better than lanolin.

Took about 2 weeks. I alternated between lanolin and the motherlove cream. I also put olive oil on the paper towel and then rubbed it on the flange and on the insides, which helped them not 'catch' in the tubes. I also used these comfort breast shields: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000058DQJ/ref=wms_ohs_product?ie=UTF8&psc=1 to keep my shirt from rubbing on them at night and rubbing the cream off/irritating them. I only used these for about 3 days and they felt SO MUCH BETTER

Oh, I think it took a week or two. :/
I've been EP for about 10 weeks now, and only a handful of times a week do my nipples get really sore, and that only happens when I don't get them centered right at the start of pumping.

I started to EP last Thursday after a week and a half of miserable BFing my newborn. I was wondering how long the discomfort last? I feel really tender and almost bruised even though I use Motherlover before every session. Do you have tips on how to make it better? Thanks!
