Thanks ladies, I suspected that it wasn't really going to help. The real problem is DH who goes off the anecdotal evidence from the people he trusts but hasn't done any research on his own. He's probably just tired of hearing me complain about getting up in the night, haha.

We started oatmeal mixed with breastmilk at 5 months and we did it as part of starting solids. It did not help my son sleep better. You should do what you are comfortable with, not what everyone else thinks.

As a desperate single first time Mom with DS I started around 3 months trying to get him to sleep more. He was up almost every 2 hours still! My family pushed me into it. It didn't help his sleep at all. It also didn't hurt him but this I will wait since it was pointless to start so soon.

I think you know your child best. Don't let your family guilt you into starting early!

We had the opposite situation. DS had been showing signs of readiness for solids since he was about 3 months, but we were trying to hold off until 6 months, per our doctor's recommendation. DS kept increasing his daily food intake, though, and he added extra night wakings just to eat. He's always been a big eater, but when he increased his daily intake by 10 ounces a day for over two weeks, we finally decided to just start solids already. We started oatmeal last week (at 5 months) and his sleep did improve because he stopped needing as much formula in a 24 hour period. He's a monster at eating solids, too; he'll literally eat a huge bowl of oatmeal and a container of veggies every day, and he cries when he finishes because he wants more!

I think we should have started him sooner. I knew he was hungry, and I knew he was ready, but we were trying to do it "the right way." Anyway, you know your baby and you should trust your instincts. Don't start until you think he's really ready for it. :)

We started oatmeal at a little over 4 months. Hasn't helped his sleep at all. He was really interested in food and our pediatrician ok'd it which is why we started when we did.

Just want to let you know my LO is 15 weeks and her sleep has gotten bad too. It is definitely the age. Her sleep has been bad for three weeks. I don't think it is because they are hungry, just that they are developing a lot and their brain is going crazy.

E is 14 weeks now and for the last few weeks has not been sleeping as well at night as he used to. He used to only wake up around 3am to eat, but now he's added a wake up at 11pm and sometimes around 5am. At first I attributed this to a growth spurt, but the spurt has passed and he's still waking up hungry at 11.
My MIL and SIL keep saying I should start feeding him cereal. My SIL gave her LO cereal at an insanely young age, we're talking between 1 and 2 months. Even the daycare teachers have suggested we try to feed him cereal. He is EBF now and I'd ideally like to wait on solids until he's 6mo and skip cereal altogether, I really think this sleep regression is just a phase. With all this outside influence I feel like I'm fighting a losing battle with DH though.
If you fed your LO cereal, when did you start? And did you do it to get them to sleep better at night?
