I'm SO glad to see other women who "gained more than they should" in the 1st trimester. For me, the only way to keep the nausea away was to keep myself stuffed. And I couldn't workout like I normally did because the morning sickness would be worse for the next two days (even on a mild workout).

I gained 37 lbs with my daughter, and I have a feeling I'll gain more than that this time. But, I'm keeping up w/ the 1-2 lbs per week, so I guess it's evening out. Now that I'm in my 3rd trimester, I'm really starting to workout again (lightly) and watch what I eat. (I guess the fear of almost being done finally got my butt in gear).

I gained quite a bit my first trimester because carbs sounded amazing and I was afraid morning sickness would deprive me of foods so I stuffed my face. Fortunately, I never got morning sickness, but paid the price for over-indulging. 2nd and 3rd trimester, my cravings went away, and my weight gain evened out so I wasn't too concerned. :)

@runnerd: aww sounds exactly like me with my first pregnancy. I used to run everyday, but stopped because I had bleeding early on too.
I also ate tons of carbs because it helped with my nausea. :P
I ended up gaining about 55lbs with DD. :P By the 20 week mark I was up 20+lbs.

I think I gained about 10-15 pounds the first trimester and 40 total so the gain was pretty steady throughout.

I gained around 15 lbs in my first try because I was nauseous and all I could eat was carbs. My doctor was not happy, even though I was thin pre-preg. The weight gain slowed considerably as pregnancy progressed and the weight I gained was within my doctor's recommended range. I lost all of it (and more) through breastfeeding so try not to worry too much! Also FWIW, I exercised throughout pregnancy and am convinced this contributed to my ravenous appetite! Sure, I felt great but I couldn't stop eating!

@gilmoregirl: this exactly!

I gained about 15 pounds in the first trimester, but by 20 weeks, it slowed down considerably-as in, there have been weeks where I didn't gain anything. I'm going to gain a bunch, I can tell, but I'm trying not to worry about it. The weight has been slow to come on recently, and I'm trying to just focus on being healthy.

But hey, we're cooking babies here, so if we have to gain some weight to do it, well-they're worth it!

Well it was 2nd trimester that I gained a lot not 1st tri, but by the end I was losing weight while baby was still gaining and I hadn't changed my eating habits. Sometimes your body just does what it needs to regardless of how you eat.

I think I gained 10-11 in the first trimester and gained 27 pds total...after the morning sickness was over I got back to my healthy eating and exercising. 7 mths pp and it's all gone and then some. I wish I would have relaxed about it more in the beginning!!!!

I gained 12 pounds in the first trimester. I was really sick, didn't exercise and could barely keep anything down and still gained. I started exercising and eating healthy when the nausea went away around 15 weeks, but still ended up gained 57 pounds! However, at 4.5 pp I have less than 10 pounds to lose. I worried way to much about it.

I gained 12 in the first trimester as I was constantly snacking on crackers to keep the nausea away. I would say I evened out...ended up gaining 31 total.

I gained about 12 pounds in the first tri for the exact reasons you cited. It has slowed down somewhat in later weeks (I'm about 28 weeks now) but I still can't exercise much (I do eat healthy again, thanks goodness). I've stopped weighing myself because it is only stressing me out. I have a really hard time with the weight gain, but I do believe my body is keeping the weight that it needs to grow this baby. I seem to gain no matter what I do/eat, so I'm trying to keep it all in perspective.

For both my girls I gained most of my weight by mid 2nd trimester. I end up gaining around 25 lbs total. Both times I stopped gaining weight towards the end of the second tri and then a bit into the third trimester I start gaining slowly. I worked out for both pregnancies but a lot less intensely the 2nd time around and it didn't change my weight gain pattern much.

I gained 10 lbs in the first tri and so far in the 2nd tri (at 21 weeks...and with twins!) I've only gained 3.5. I didn't change anything between 1st and 2nd tri except that my nausea isn't as bad now so I'm not eating constantly like I was at first. My dr isn't concerned and said some people gain a lot on the front end and their bodies even things out.

Err, I gained too much in the first trimester, and ended up 50lbs up by the end. But I'm the worst, so I wouldn't take my example as normal haha. Carbs and cheese were the only thing I could eat during my 16 weeks of nausea, and after a loss a few months earlier, I was too paranoid to exercise. Oh the things we would do over...

I worried so much about my weight gain -'too much in the first trimester, 6lbs in one week one time, etc. I looked at growth curves and all the charts and stressed myself out.
Towards the end I decided I didn't give a you-know-what and just did what I could. I ended up gaining 35lbs. More than I wanted initially but certainly not worth all the stress I spent over it. At 4months pp I have. 7 lbs left to lose.

Moral of my story : don't worry about it :-) eat healthy, go for walks (or whatever other exercise you want) and enjoy a treat every now and then!

I ended up gaining 35 net pounds. It would have been about 42 or so but I lost 8 when started the GD diet. I started putting on weight as soon as I got my BFP. I would try not to worry, because your body will do what it needs to to grow the baby, and you may not turn out huge at all. FWIW I've lost most of the weight (still have 15 lbs or so to go) and my diet is way worse than it was at the end of my pregnancy.

...did your weight gain even out by the end of your pregnancy or where you just over the recommended weight gain?

Because of spotting I stopped cold turkey on exercise for 2 months, but didn't change my eating habits. Actually they got worse with all my first tri anxiety. Ended up gaining about 11 lbs.

I'm just wondering if the fact that I'm starting exercise and eating more fruits/veggies will even the gain out, or if I'm doomed to be huge by the end (well more huge than I would have been.)
